So much potential! But sorely lacking!
Ok, so when I first saw this drum simulator in the app store, I knew I had to get it, as Ive always wanted to get better on the drums. Im a music major, and keyboard is my strength, drums, not so much. For the price, I figured I'd give it a shot, and if it didn't work well, at least I was only out a couple bucks. After playing on the easy level, first impressions: this is really fun and awesome! The song was cool (although it would be nice if there were more of them), and I really liked the guitar hero style of play, when you hit the drums in rhythm to the colored circles advancing towards you. I did notice, however, that I could not really hear MY drum sounds when I struck a drum or cymbal in the game- it appears the drum sounds were set by the developers to go off at different intervals, and your input did not alter the sound one bit. That was a bit disappointing. Also, sometimes I would strike a drum when I was supposed to, but the game would not count it as a proper drum hit. This wasn't as bad on beginner level, where you have more time to position your drumsticks properly. I was able to score around 90% on easy, but medium was a different story. On medium difficulty (where I only scored about 35%,) it was nearly impossible to keep up with the rhythm- and the drumstick many times just went right through the drums, without a sound or adding to my score. But Ill say this much- it left me wanting more, which is a good thing. Any app where you can create or play music in vr is like gold to me. If they could enlarge the area on the drums that can register a hit, and enable people to hear exactly what they are playing during the rhythm game, oh, and add a bunch more songs, they could quite possibly have a hit on their hands. I would also like to see some kind of light or spark or anything at the end of the drumstick when contact is made with the drums, so you can better see where contact is taking place- this will greatly add to playability- in addition to this, considerable amount of work needs to be done on the physics of the game so the drumstick doesnt just pass through the drum when it strikes it- the end of the drumstick should bounce up off the surface of the drum once contact is made. This would greatly improve realism. If they were to make those changes, I dont see why this game couldn't be just as popular as Beatsaber (especially if it gets ported over to quest and quest2- with 2 controllers a good drumset like this would be epic! Great start guys! Now you just have to add more realism and more songs and you'll have a guaranteed hit on your hands!
