Wow

Very nice game...reminds me of homeworld...excellent job devs 👏👏 bravo! Update: now that I've played it a few times, I wanna offer up some suggestions for the devs... 1. Maybe an option to carry something over after you die so it's not as hard and you.dont have to start over from scratch every time. 2. Add a rotation button (let me rotate the screen 360 while I remain still in reality)...if you are standing I can see how the rotation is easily overcome, but what about sitting? Why can't I just grip and rotate my hands clockwise or counterclockwise to turn the battlefield around? Demeo has this feature...3. Perhaps make the easy setting a little easier...

Update?

I absolutely love this game! I actually PRE-ORDERED the game and received the bonus ship to begin with. It was my NUMBER one game and STILL one of my favorite. BUT after beating the game several times and received ALL the ship and bonus available to my knowledge, the challenge is no more. I SEE the opportunity to continue the GREATNESS with this game. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can the developer come out with an updated campaign/story? Its such a great game with SOOOO many opportunities for more races and ships more EVERYTHING!!!! And ONLY for that reason I give it a 4 out 5. But with a few UPDATES It surely would be a 10 out of 5 star if that possible.

Enjoyable but needs some improvements

So I’ve enjoyed playing this game and just finished my first play through, I played medium (recommended) and finished it in the first attempt so the perma death warning wasn’t really implemented as I found it quite easy. I like how your army scales as you grow but the campaign felt very short, some missions were over in about 2-3 minutes maximum as you just blast the enemy away. I’d suggest longer missions, and bigger ships to both fight with and against where targeting subsystems actually felt worth while rather than just blasting everything. I’d like to see an intro to the other races too, maybe giving each of them a campaign, or making the campaign endless, so the waves get stronger and stronger and your fleet can build up so it felt like a real progressive game after it finishes

Honest Review

I like the game. Needs improvements, but overall fun. I heard they were updating. Hope it helps. Gameplay: The not so great: Controls: It took just a bit of getting used to the controls. Especially selecting subsystem. There are a few time it acts funny. The example is sometimes I tell a ship to do something.. and we'll the captain of that ship is either using the bathroom or taking a break. Also, sometimes when you tell a ship to travel to a certain point it tries to follow the path but if it is too fast or hates your flight path it will try to get to the next path but miss the angle or fly past it then try to correct it and so it kind of does this wobble towards it's destination. Story: The story is not adaptive. There needs to be some cause and effect. One I know that really dominates is the uncovering and defeating the enemies from the other side of the gate. You do this to finish a quest series to quell a conflict with the bug species. After that there a few missions that you can select to where the bugs are still you enemy after you resolve the conflict. On that note they need more missions and more diverse. Example on said mission you could choose to go through the gate to explore another region. Other things that could help would be being able to upgrade and or leave forces at the main base so you can explore more if you feel you updated the base enough to survive without you. If you want more suggestions let me know. More audio clips as well not just the simple sounds. But full conversation would make it emersive. Graphics: I am a game designer myself so I understand there are limitations, but there are also ways to improve graphics and still have the resources for smooth gameplay. Using LODs, texture packing, code refinement, reduce drawcalls etc. Check out, Half-life Alyx or Red Matter. This game even uses less geometry then most games so you should be able to bolster the post processing and other elements to improve quality. Also, suggestions for smoothing groups. It will make it less.. low poly looking. Side suggestion: it would be neat to capture vehicles to increase you armada. The Good: I really enjoy the nerual link aspect. Very neat idea. Being able to walk around the battlefield is very fun. Taking care of your fleet for repairs and upgrades and debating on whether to use your resources elsewhere is part of the greater war experience. I really like using the main weapons and subsystems it makes you feel more like a space captain! Overall fun game, but needs some improvements to make it a great game. Go for FreeSpace.

My overall impression

This game reminds me a lot of Star Trek. You play as a captain on a vessel and you complete missions to build up allies and resources to survive the final battle to defend man kind. There’s a lot of unlockables to customise your campaign experience which gives the game has a lot of replayability which is great. The controls aren’t amazing but they’re okey, although the simplicity is somewhat boring and there’s not much real time strategy to be had. The missions are dull and we basically just glide around in till our enemies are dead. There’s no cover system and the micro is very limited to using a big cannon or space jump. Some more micro will be unlocked over time as we gain access to more items which makes the actual gameplay slightly more appealing but it’s too slow and too late as every campaign phase only lasts 7 missions. All the important decision making is in what missions we choose and what rewards we equip. There’s also few sound effects and no voice recordings. In a game where 20-30% of your play time will go to reading dialogue it is quite annoying not to have any voice acting. Especially in a VR game where reading long dialogues isn’t optimal. I need reading glasses but there’s no good way of using them while playing VR so I’m usually okey with slightly blurry text when I play but in this game the excessive reading gives me a headache. An other issue with this game is descriptions, even though they do exist we need to hover with our hands perfectly still to read them rather than just grip an item and see the necessary information. This is a very big deal as most of the strategic decision making in this game is in equipping the right items and knowing how they work. If you’re new to the game I strongly recommend you play on easy. It is extremely unforgiving if you made a poor decision and if you die you will have to restart the whole campaign all over again. You only have one life. There’s also no menu button and there’s a delay before they let us skip cutscenes for some reason which can be quite annoying.
