A Dream Come True

I'm a brand new user. I just purchased the app yesterday to try it out. First, I'd like to give a big shout out to Boe, the developer, for creating a standalone version of Google Earth VR. I love Google Earth VR, but didn't really use it very much because of the additional inconvenience of needing to be tethered to a high-powered gaming PC. Before discovering EQ, I had been using the standalone Wander app. When I first started using it, I was quite impressed with it, but over time I became very disappointed with it, after I found some serious bugs in the software. When I tried to contact the developer to report these problems, I found out that there's absolutely ZERO support for the app, because the most current release of the app was back in April of 2019, which means the app has not been updated since that time. Basically, it's a end of life app, so I would not recommend it to anyone. On the other extreme is EQ. Not only are the features and functionalities just as robust as Google Earth VR, if not more, but also, the support is incredible. Just one day after starting to use it, I encountered some problems. I contacted the developer and within 30 minutes I got a response from the developer himself. After spending quite some time troubleshooting the problem I was experiencing, it turned out it was a stupid operator error on my part. Instead of getting upset with me for reporting a false positive, he continues to be very supportive of me. I've been waiting for something like EQ ever since I first tried Google Earth VR. It's like a dream come true. Now that EQ VR is standalone, I'm looking forward to using it regularly. Kudos to Boe for making Quest so much better. You're a genius and an invaluable asset to the VR community!

Wish I bought this one first

Update 15th June 2025 We got street view time travel now! This app was 5/5 for me when I first got it but over the last year all the updates have been incredible. Flying is perfect, space is perfect, street view is perfect now, it's not just the best all in one google earth it's the best at all the things, even price! I own all of them - fly, wander, wooorld (paid), google earth on pcvr - earth quest is the one I use every day and look forward to see what new thing the dev Boe is working on. Liverpool looks incredible ---- Update: Since writing this, the app has had ai upscaling to the textures, added a beautiful sound track, and greatly improved the collision with flying (perfection) . I've never seen an app get so frequently improved the dev is just on another level for support and dedication to making this the ultimate vr earth experience. This is a MUST HAVE app, and it's so cheap in price! I own wooorld and wander and they're great but this is the ultimate standalone Google Earth app. You can even replace the sky with mixed reality. I love that I can see google street view in a little bubble on my hand and if I tap my head I can enter and exit street view to compare 8k street view with the 3d world. Also you can teleport in street view mode and when you leave it's moved you in 3d as well. The menus are anchored to your hand and you touch a button with your other hand to turn it on. You can change your scale in the menu but I wish I could do that by grabbing with the grips as well. Flying around is really fun you point your hand and press a trigger and if you press the other trigger you get a speed boost and flying at higher altitudes makes you go faster too! You can fly all the way up and look down at earth as a globe and fly around it and the transition is pretty smooth! Love the compass on the hand it doesnt get in the way. I haven't tried the ai stuff or multiplayer but I'm having a blast and the dev is really active on discord and is passionate about VR.

Best you’re gonna get on the meta quest!

Worldlens stands as the king of google-earth style experiences on the standalone quest. Everything runs extremely well on a standard quest 3, I don’t notice any lag or performance drops. There’s a few key features that stand out to me that make this worth the buy over other apps like Fly. 1. The UI. Super smooth and easy to navigate, which I do find is a problem with other google earth apps. 2. The movement. It’s hard to describe, but it feels very natural, much less clunky and much more intuitive than the alternatives. 3. The time travel feature. Worldlens is the only app on the meta quest utilizing google earth’s data that I’ve found thus far that have the ‘time travel’ function. What this mean, essentially, is that when you’re in street view, you can set the year you’d like to see google street view photos of and it will change to match your Selection. It can be super nostalgic to visit childhood spots and see how they were when you were young and I love that it’s an option here. 4. It has a ‘time of day’ feature that’s super well implemented, so you can walk through the maps early morning or during other times of day. I’d recommend toying around with it as it can be really pretty, and I also appreciate that it’s not forced on you and can be turned on or off. It’s google earth on the quest, done right.

LOVE - But Missing Important Feature

Love the app BUT I work with seniors who are memory and physically challenged - unable and/or unteachable to operate a controller or do hand movements - and WISH that a 2nd (or many multiple) Quest 3's could be made slave to my Quest so that they can enjoy Earthquest VR guided completely by me and see exactly what I am seeing. Without this feature, Earthquest VR (and nearly all VR apps) will remain limited to a smaller segment of the population that has the ability and interest in learning how to operate controllers or hand movements.

Already one of my favourite apps

The first 24 hours of using this app has been mindblowing. It's been a while since i visited Google Earth, but being able to do so in VR is an amazing experience which makes you feel like a god. it's made me realise that I was only interested in flightsims for the pleasure of viewing the earth from above, and now I don't need to learn the science of aeronautical aviation to do so. I love that you don't need controllers to fly around the world. 3D buildings in the major cities I have visited have really added to the realism of the experience. I'm very encouraged by the dedication of the developer, who based on reviews appears to be constantly refining this app. I have very little to suggest, although a variety of audio tracks would be good - would it be possible for audio even to vary appropriately according to geography? Update (15/01/26): This app just keeps getting better and better with frequent significant updates from the developer. I can only assume that some of the low ratings on here are a deliberate attempt to steer people away. Easily one of the top 3 apps/games that I use on Quest 3. Update: (8 May 2026): With AI now installed, the app just got even better!
