WELCOME TO ZIX - EARLY ACCESS

ZIX is a VR action roguelike with a deep combat system and a player-driven procedural world generation system. Team up with friends across platforms as you remix runs and alter reality to uncover the mysteries of ZIX.

🧪 MIX THE WORLD

Harvest blessings from three strange worlds and fuse them together, creating your next trial. The ingredients don't just tweak numbers, they warp the fabric of reality.

With millions of possible combinations, no two runs play the same.

✋ THE FIRST INSTINCT SYSTEM

First Instinct is ZIX’s custom-built movement & combat system. You’ll dash, wall-run, block, and hurl weapons using just two triggers and gestures that echo your intentions. No face buttons. No menus. Nothing to distract you and break the trance.

🛠️ REMIX YOURSELF

Each run grants divine augments that rewire how you fight. Teleport to thrown blades, shatter reality with explosive dashes, or rain precision arrows from above. Customize your look with arcane attachments and ritual markings.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 BRING FRIENDS (OR DON’T)

Play solo or in seamless 3-player co-op. Coordinate wild builds and face the chaos together—or apart. ZIX bends to your party’s will.

🧩 UNRAVEL WHAT’S HIDDEN

Symbols. Glitches. Secret paths.

ZIX isn’t just a roguelike, it’s a mystery waiting to be stirred.

Roguelike with unique controls

There are alot of roguelikes these days, some are better then others, but many of them are really similar. Zix does some things better and some things worse: The weakest point in my opinion are the generated levels. Dont get me wrong, they are not terrible, but it feels too generated for me. Some maps feel great, other maps are nearly empty, the difficulty spikes sometimes and is very low on other parts. Its nothing that cant be fixed, but these are the biggest negative points for me. That out of the way... the positives: I really like zix because the combat is amazing. Every weapon, attack and movement is designed for VR. A bow gesture summons a bow, a pistol gesture summons pistols etc. The combat is quick and the possibilitys for combos are very high, youre jumping alot and stay airborne for long periods of time. The progression is good too: You earn money and unlock new weapons, you level up and upgrade your abilitys, there are highscores and most importantly a coop mode. The graphics are ok, not amazing... but smooth, which is very important for the quick combat. The music is not my thing (i guess its personal taste), im listening to my own music most of the time. For now, Zix is like a 4-4.2 for me, when future upgrades adressing my negative points it could be a 5. Its defintely on the higher tiers of roguelikes for me and if you like this genre you should check it out and give it a shot.

Not a fan of roguelikes

At its core, Zix puts you in the role of an Acolyte harvesting “raw instability” from three shifting worlds. You use a mystical Cauldron to fuse ingredients from those worlds, which changes everything: enemies, environments, and even the chaos that unfolds. Every run plays out differently, with bosses that can literally reshape arenas mid-battle. You can tackle this solo, or bring along up to two friends in full cross-platform co-op. Whether you’re on Quest or Steam, everyone can mix worlds together and fight through the madness. I played both solo and co-op, and both worked smoothly. The hook here is improvisation. Instead of memorizing patterns, you’re constantly adapting. Gesture-based combat is central: you dash, wall-run, block, and throw weapons without even glancing at your controllers. The focus is on intent and rhythm, not button combos. That makes the game feel like orchestrating chaos, chaining dodges, dives, and strikes in ways that flow naturally once you get the hang of it. The visuals hit me first. The neon-soaked environments are eerie but vibrant, with glowing edges and surreal atmospheres that stand out in VR. The color palette is striking and made a strong first impression. Even in chaotic fights, the environments remain readable, which is critical in a roguelike where every second counts. Skins also bring personality. I played rocking a punk skin while a friend went mushroom mode, and while they’re cosmetic, they add fun flair without interfering with performance. For those who care about customization, there are purchasable upgrades, but they’re optional and don’t unbalance the experience. Here’s where I hit some friction. Early on, I felt a bit lost, and that delayed my connection with the game. But once I powered through repeated runs, things clicked: the Cauldron made sense, the augments had real impact, and the rhythm of combat became second nature. You’ll need patience in the first few runs. But if you push through, the payoff is worth it. Combat is where Zix shines. Enemies feel fair, dangerous but beatable if you use timing and movement. I experimented with multiple weapons, but here’s the surprise: despite usually avoiding bows in VR games, the bow and arrow became my go-to weapon here. It felt powerful, accurate, and capable of melting enemies quickly. Pairing the bow with a sword gave me versatility, and perks only made those builds better. The First Instinct system takes a couple runs to trust, but once I did, I played more naturally, dodging, striking, and throwing in rhythm. When it works, it’s incredibly satisfying, especially during fights where you’re blasting bees, bunnies, and mushrooms into space. The Cauldron is where the game achieves replayability. By mixing ingredients from three worlds, you’re effectively remixing the game itself. Levels, enemies, even the physics-driven chaos changes. Add in leaderboards for most runs, most chaos, and most kills, and there’s a competitive layer on top of the personal experimentation. Replayability here feels genuine. I don’t usually enjoy roguelikes, but the mix of combat flow and discovery kept me coming back. I’ve found myself jumping in just for “one more run” when I had other things I should have been doing. Zix hides more than it explains. There are secrets tucked into the world so explore and discover them. In Early Access, Zix already feels like a complete and promising package, and it has plenty of room to grow. If you’re into VR combat, improvisation, or you just want something different from the usual rhythm or shooter titles, Zix is worth your time.

Hope to see more!

This could be the Risk Of Rain of quest if the update momentum stays consistent. I mean new maps, enemy types, etc. It's a fantastic base at the moment, but can absolutely be filled out more. Otherwise, really nothing else like it on quest, so I will continue playing it in hopes it stays supported.

Really scratches the RoR2 itch

Nice game that fits short bursts of sessions. The movement is really very good. I like when VR games go extreme and embrace the format, and I think ZIX does a good balance managing comfort with the expressive, intense action. If you can't handle smooth locomotion, this game might not be your cup of tea though - and you might still get tired quicker playing this game than others... But I think that's ok! I love how *weird* (positive) this is, and would encourage people who want to see more ground-breaking and risks being taken in games to support small teams making stuff that truly experiments with the controls we use for games. Side point: I really like the space nebulas and how they are cutouts to skyboxes, I haven't seen this be used in other VR games and it pops quite well IMO. It's weird and very cool to experience first person. Fingers crossed Early Access works out well for the devs :)

An innovative work in progress

There's never been a better time to get into this game. Development has recommenced and the work the developers have been putting into their game DOJI is beginning to pay off for ZIX. The game's also had a permanent price drop and has added Quest 2 support which should be good for building a player base The shadows that were broken are now working, (although only recommended on Quest 3 for performance reasons), and they definitely improve the atmosphere. The world seems less lifeless and flat. I wish the visuals had more contrast, but I'm very happy the shadows are working. Like any Early Access game there are glitches but so far they've been minor. The innovative movement system, charming enemy designs with interesting behaviors, and roguelike gameplay have me hoping that ZIX will become a great success.
