Mediocre at best

The five star reviews are not to be believed - unless you want to trust paid bots and clowns that have no morals. This game is barely mid level rogue lite at best. An arcade heavy melee game, you fight your way across new york with norse zombies invading. It's really sad that Soul Assembly again chose zombies as that's game number 27/28 - obviously this is hyperbole - that includes zombies. It's not fun, graphics are barely passable and overall the game just manages to exist in a time when rogue games are the highlight. If you want to spend $30+ then get a better game. If you're that hard up for a game by this dev, something containing Norse myth or thor then go nuts and waste money. But anyone giving this five stars is either paid or has no clue what quality is. Avoid this like their last flop last stand and save your $$

Stunning graphics and great fun

I am typically not a fan of roguelites, but the look of this game was enough to catch my interest and get me to pre-order it. And wow, it is a beautiful game for standalone. Kinda reminds me a bit of the look of The Unspoken Acolytes, for the old Rift store. And as far as it being a roguelite, there seems to at least be some progress saved. When you get to the void between realms after defeating a certain stage, I guess it saves your progress. But if you return to the void prematurely, it doesnt. I dont mind that level of roguelite. And the combat is really fun. Mjolnir has a presence to it when you're wielding it. Overall, Id highly recommend it. A beautiful, fun, and interesting game.

Surprisingly addictive

Three hours in, and I nearly forgot to eat. That’s the easiest way I can sum up my first session with Street Gods on Meta Quest — a rare standalone VR purchase that actually kept me playing well past my usual one-to-two-hour refund cutoff. It’s the kind of surprise that makes you check your watch and go, “Oh — right. I’m having fun.” The look and tone Visually it leans hard into a graffiti-soaked cyberpunk vibe: neon paint, ragged street art, and a protagonist who could’ve been a poster for indie urban fantasy. I’ll admit I braced for the usual overbearing “girl-boss” messaging or activist baggage. Instead the game mostly lets the style speak for itself — colorful, stylized, and refreshingly light on sermonizing. That aesthetic won’t be everyone’s cup of tea (I found it slightly jarring at first), but it grows on you and gives the world character. Weird, funny narrative bits The game wastes no time throwing the absurd at you — you paint for five seconds and then Mjolnir appears in the street. No lore dump, no ceremony. Thor inside your hammer, Loki reduced to a googly-eyed rock — it’s dumb in a charming way and promises a story that’s willing to be patient about revealing itself. Combat and movement This is a melee game at heart. The hammer is the centrepiece and it’s fun to use: satisfying throws, catches, and (eventually) teleportation to the hammer. Movement is the big pivot here — early on I found traversal sluggish and a bit plodding. The moment I unlocked the teleport-to-hammer mechanic the game changed: combat tempo sped up, encounters felt punchier, and exploration became more fluid. If you’re put off by slow starting mechanics, hang in there — the mobility upgrades matter. That said, melee impact sometimes lacks variety. Hits feel serviceable and enemies go down, but the animations and physics are a little samey: foes tend to fall in the same way and hits don’t always sell the weight you want from a mythic hammer. It’s enjoyable, but not quite the visceral, bone-shaking feedback you’d get from a highly tuned PC VR title. Roguelike loop & pacing Street Gods embraces roguelike repetition — lots of runs, unlocks drip in slowly, and the progression is clearly designed to be long. After three hours I discovered I was still barely out of the tutorial belt, which is great if you want longevity. Expect repetition; it’s part of the DNA, and the loop is solid enough to keep you invested. World interaction & polish A few little environmental interactions are delightful (hitting a car a few times and watching it explode is a small thrill), but generally the world’s interactivity is limited. Props mostly stay props — throw the hammer at a trash can and it may crumble once, then remain static. That’s a budget/standalone limitation you’ll notice sometimes: it hints at bigger physics dreams that the platform constraints can’t always satisfy. Audio The soundtrack is competent but unremarkable. It’s serviceable and atmospheric, but I felt it needed more punch and personality to match the visual swagger. Sound effects could use tighter, more impactful design — stronger audio feedback would go a long way toward selling those hammer hits. How it compares If you like current VR roguelikes (think Sweet Surrender, The Light Brigade, ZIX, Ancient Dungeon), Street Gods sits comfortably in that echelon — distinct enough to stand on its own, with a longer-form progression and a particular visual voice. It’s not the most polished melee sim, but its personality and pacing give it real charm. Verdict If you’re looking for a standalone Meta Quest title that’s long, quirky, and consistently fun, Street Gods is worth the buy. It scratches that roguelike melee itch, rewards persistence with meaningful movement upgrades, and has enough character to make repetitive runs feel worthwhile. With a little more polish on hit feedback, audio oomph, and world physics, it could be a standout — as it is, it’s a very good, very playable game that surprised me by keeping me glued to the headset for three straight hours. Who should buy it: fans of VR melee and roguelike loops, solo players who enjoy slow-burn unlocks, and anyone who likes their cyberpunk a little rough-around-the-edges and a lot of personality. Who should wait: players who demand hyper-realistic physics, ultra-varied enemy reactions, or a killer soundtrack on launch.

You throw THOR’s Hammer in this game!

If that one statement doesn’t get you excited to try this game, I don’t know what else will. This game is EPIC! You smash, throw, and call back the hammer just like Thor would and call thunder strikes smite enemies! Graphics is great and the action is intense! Highly recommend!

GOD OF WAR

Not sure why this only has 9 reviews, yes it’s quite repetitive, but the gameplay is very addictive, throwing the Thor Hammer feels just awesome. I’m yet to face a boss battle yet, but loving the progression so far. It’s totally different to any game on Quest. It’s a yes from me,
