For the most part, it seems as though VR (at least the Oculus Go) isn’t exactly a hotbed of rhythm-based gameplay creativity. You have certain titles like Thumper that are game changers, but when it comes to more traditional approaches, VR feels rather flat as a platform. Enter Starship Disco. Here is a game that combines familiar elements with VR twists, while hitting all the right notes for a game of this type. If you’ve ever picked up a fake guitar and spent any time playing Guitar Hero, then you get the basic premise here. Tap objects (in this case various starships) as they enter a small orbit, all in time to a dance tune. The extra layer of challenge in this case, instead of being stationary while your arms and hands do all the work, here you have to also use head-gazing because the starships come at you from all directions. But then they don’t just come at you, they also go away from you, hook up and down, etc., shifting gears very quickly. Some may dislike this gameplay mechanic; I thought it was fun because you’re essentially head-bobbing to the music, which adds to the enjoyment. The environments are very attractive. Think interstellar overdrive, with lots of hypnotic black-light types of colors. Definitely adds to the late-night dance club feel. As for the music, I loved it. Some might say these are just generic backing dance tracks, but I felt they had vibrancy and energy, with very catchy beats and hooks. When you find yourself coming back to the game as much for the music as the gameplay itself, that says something to me. Additionally, there are numerous goals and trophies to unlock once you’ve completed the campaign. You can even import tunes from your own library. Many features to enjoy. In all, I very much enjoyed it and highly recommend it if this style of gameplay is either what you’re looking for or has left you wanting more.

Really nice 3d shooter for the gear vr. Please developers make the laser sound more like a laser in the next update and add more varied music like synthwave, 8bit, etc. Option to change crosshair style would be great too. Thanks.
