Full of misinformation, but looks nice

Half an hour into exploring this app I noticed lots of incorrect information in the orrery. Earth is not 2.4 au from the Sun and Mars' moons aren't 40,000,000 kms away from Mars. I wasn't even looking for errors, so I can only assume there are lots of mistakes. For an educational app, this isn't good enough. I sent an email to these guys 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard back, nor have the mistakes been fixed. I gave them the chance to avoid a negative review, but wasn't even acknowledged. Aside from that, I actually like this app. The graphics are nice and the overall UX is good. Just don't use it as a resource for a school project. Update: A month later and the simple mistakes still aren't fixed. And I haven't heard any sort of response from the dev, even though they have replied to some reviews. I was hoping to increase my rating by now, but instead I'm decreasing it. A simple Google search and changing some numbers is all it would take. If the information was accurate, I might rate this app 4 stars.

Not a star chart

This isn't a star chart... there's big goofy constellation cartoons, but it doesn't tell you the name of a single star (at least as far as I can tell). It does have vomit inducing trips from planet to planet. I'm still pretty motion sick, but that's totally my problem. I really expected at least one of the modes in this thing to be an actual star chart. Put me sortof in my home state so I can re-create my sky and look up a couple things? maybe? I couldn't get off the equator and found literally 0 useful features in this. I guess I'd give this 4 stars if the name was Solar System Explorer. the graphics are pretty neat. The controls are weird, but it's pretty thrilling to click a planet and have it in your hand kindof. So, I mean, I had fun for a second, but for $10 I expected a program called Star Chart to have an actual star chart in it.

Star chart

This is the worst astronomical app I have ever used. The Sun never comes out of the southern hemisphere, to bad I live in the northern hemisphere. So the Sun never represents its true location. With everything else is off. Sent an email to the company and no answer. So they are as good as their product. Sorry I bought this. Now to see if I can return.

Has potential, but not there yet

Visually, it's pretty good, but it has issues that hamper usability. I'm a keen amateur astronomer and was hopling to use it to imlrove my constellation recognition skills. But, it only shows you the *current sky at your location, so you can't see what is up tonight, only what is up now. If the stars were up now, I'd be looking at them IRL. It should allow date scrolling. Various objects appear in the wrong spots randomly, like the moon appearing next to the sun when I knew it was a few days past full. The Large Magellanic cloud is in completely the wrong spot, and the SMC doesn't even show. The great carinae nebula doesnt even get a mention. The labelling of objects ir very sparse and few and far between. There is a lot more care takens with star spectral class and distances, but that's not all that interesting to astronomers. In orrery mode, the viewpoint thing is weird where you bounce the pointer off the floor to change your position. In this mode, the distances are incorrect. Eg, the earth's average distance from the sun is the definition of the astronomical unit of measurement, but you'll see it changes with the visual scaling of the model so that it generates incorrect data. It's a great idea, but it doesn't work yet.

An interesting app, but needs work

First off, I think this is a neat app. But it could really be so much better. Here's things I like about it: I especially like the presentation of information, and how you can have models of the planets in your hands. I like the different modes. I like the concept of a virtual planetarium. Things I don't like: The controls are unintuitive. You press the grip button or the a/y button and it goes back and even exists the app instead of the Oculus home button being the only button that exits the app. You do get used to that, but it's just a bit jarring when you accidentally do it. The Sky View mode is disorienting because there's no option to have some kind of land environment to block the lower half of the horizon. You can't choose a location to see the night sky at--it sets it for you based on your location. It's a nice feature but it'd be really great to choose your location. There's a sun glare which is really annoying and changes the brightness of the environment, makes it a bit hard to see. Overall, I'm thinking that I do like the app. I'm not completely satisfied with it, but it does fill a niche we don't have on the Quest yet. I do think it's a nice app but to me it definitely needs improvements.
