Dreamflight can be a very meditative experience at times. The gameplay is simple enough to allow for laying back and enjoying the visuals and music: collect floating gems as you fly through each stage. By doing so you trigger musical notes that add to the rest of song playing in the background. This has been my most enjoyable experience in gear vr so far. Highly recommended.

This game is so beautiful. Its a nice way to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I am unsure why there are Christmas trees in it though. That is a bit strange and out of place. Also, in the house on the menu where it is supposed to say “Start Game” it says “Star Game”. Edit: Looking at the game version notes I see the last update was a Christmas update in 2016! How can you just abandon a game like that and still charge people?

This is exactly what I picture in a vr experience. I love that it's completely hands free. The only adjustment I would make is not having to pick your ride in between stories every time. And the last story, behind the door, I would stabilize the "storm" so it doesn't move around with your head movement. I sure hope you're working on more stories, songs and rides!

I love music for so many reasons, not least of which is how it can enhance a sensory experience. Music is integral to every type of media, from the rousing scores in cinema down to mere jingles in commercials. As for the gaming industry, we remember some of our most beloved titles from yesteryear for their signature melodies. As we’ve evolved to mainstream VR, we look to how this medium can utilize music in creative ways. Look no further than Reveries: Dream Flight, a title that, as of this writing, is going on 4 years old but has held up extremely well. The premise is simple: guide your character and flight animal through dreamscapes, collecting diamonds in time to the melody of the song. The number of diamonds (and floating ghostly eyes) that you collect allows you to unlock further dreamscapes (10 in total) and upgraded flight animals. What is lost in this synopsis is the elegance, the nuance, the poetry of such an experience. For one thing, the music is just flat out amazing. At turns gorgeous, hypnotic, uplifting, and somnambulant, each dreamscape is illuminated perfectly by its corresponding tune. This is a soundtrack that could stand on its own and be appreciated in any context. Inspirational new age, soothing lullaby, hauntingly beautiful textures, these 10 musical pieces are exceedingly memorable and enjoyable. Much praise to the developers and composer(s). Secondly, the graphics are highly imaginative and surreal, evoking the essence of dream worlds brought to life. Adopting a low-poly Japanese anime style, we travel through these dreams surrounded by some of the most mystical creatures and environments you’ll see. Echoing what I said in an earlier review for The Dream Dimension, we are seeing but snapshots of these dreams without any context as to who, what, when, where, or why we’re seeing any of it. This adds greatly to the sense of wonder and imagination. I’ve seen where other reviewers have lamented a lack of free-flight mode, where you can simply fly through the environment and soak in the images. Indeed, when you are playing the game, your focus on diamonds and keeping in time does distract you from the awesome background splendor. However, this mode isn’t actually necessary, because unlike other rhythm games, you won’t be punished for not participating. At any time, you can disregard the gameplay and the experience will not stop. You just won’t collect points. However, the music will still play and you can explore what you like. Count this title amongst those that I didn’t even know I wanted, or needed (I also said this about Dream Dimension, another experience you must have if you enjoy this). I can’t recommend it enough, though. It’s so many things at once: relaxing, meditative, somatic, and joyful. Worth every penny. Being that it’s held up so well in the last 4 years gives me the utmost confidence that folks will still enjoy this purchase in the years to come.
