(Re)-Discover Notre-Dame de Paris as it was 2 centuries ago, during the French Revolution. Developed for the video game Assassin's Creed: Unity, the 3D reconstitution of the cathedral required 5,000 hours of graphic work, guided by historians! Based on this acclaimed model, Ubisoft created a sensational virtual tour of Notre-Dame, offering different viewpoints from the nave to the spire, in the heart of a living Paris of the late 18th century. All to the sound of a Bach fantasia played on its famous Cavaillé-Coll organ!

This experience was shown for the first time at the UNESCO Headquarters on Heritage Days 2019 and proposed to the public during one year in an exhibition at the Archeological Crypt of Paris (2021-2022).

Low quality textures, even by raising the resolution to 180% with this optimizer the textures are still of low quality: The stained glass windows remain of low quality even by raising the resolution. Polygonal models are also very basic. The panorama with its pixelated buildings in the distance and the 2D trees between one building and another is something technically of little relevance. Technically it's nothing exceptional, you can't even move freely. You just have to wait for the scene to change until you get to the "flight" with the hot air balloon. In reality we will only rise about ten meters and then it will end. I don't understand why people praise it so much maybe because they have the chance to see the cathedral in 3D? Rather than seeing it so ugly with these poor polygonal models and these low quality textures it would be much better to see some videos at this point! There are no graphic effects worth mentioning. This could very well run on quest 1 Maybe it would have caused a bit of a stir there, but we're now at quest 3!

Nice little surprise

It's just a short tour of Notre Dame with passing moments of standing in pre-selected areas inside and outside the cathedral. More like being in Assassin's Creed Unity sets than true realism (which I think was possibly the intent, due to the intro connections to Unity). There's also a hot air balloon part that's pretty cool. It seems like maybe it's a work in progress, or at least I hope so. My play area is very small and it seems like if you have the room to move in your own space you could wander further in the app space to look over edges or climb some steps, yet there's no locomotion options. That is a bit frustrating, so I hope they will at least add this feature, as well as some object resolution improvements. Otherwise, it's a pleasant little retreat to soak in the beauty and atmosphere of the cathedral.

⛪️ A Beautiful Project 🔔

Thank you Ubisoft for doing this, not a game but a fun little exploratory app inside the AC: Unity game engine. I know there was a lot of factors that went into to this location specifically but think Ubisoft should do One location per game entry. ie: Tower of London from Syndicate, Pyramids in Origins, etc.

Non-functional

The intro starts promisingly, albeit being warned that parts of the scenery are not included in the game. Once the game starts, I am transported to an area of Notre Dame but looking at ground level, seeing along the floor and for the first 20 seconds or so, my head is locked on that scene. If I turn my head, that scene moves with me (def not VR), the controllers are non-functional. Soon after that frustrating lock-out, the view pops up to normal eye level and you have about 10 seconds to look around before you are transported to another place. I would pay decent money for a fully functional offering but this one is non-functional.

Great for what it is.

It's a free tour app. Yes, the length is short and it's a slight promotion for an Assassin's Creed game, but the level to detail is stunning. Ignore the one star reviews because this is just a short, free app. It works perfectly as it's intended to and it's a pretty cool tour.
