Even amongst virtual reality enthusiasts, most people don’t realize that the first 3D viewer was developed in 1838 by Charles Wheatstone - almost 180 years ago! Since before the popularization of television, radio, cinema, or virtual reality, people have been exploring the world through immersive stereo 3D images. From the invention of the stereoscope up through the mid 20th century, hundreds of thousands of stereographic photos cards were produced and distributed all over the world. Though nearly forgotten, these photo cards can again be viewed as intended, thanks to the advent of mobile VR.

I haven't looked yet but know it's great

What a great idea! Travelling salesmen used to come to your door with stereo-card collections, you could buy: LONDON, or GRAND CANYON and 'virtually' explore those places! They show one of the viewers in the movie 'Voyage to the Center of the Earth' (the one with Brendan Frasier) he take a nit out of the package from hos Brother early in the film, A Stereo-Opticon! I remember 2 past lives and we used these like TV back in those days before TV!

Love the Enviroment

I love the room this is set in. Honestly the environment is my favorite part. I could just sit and look at the fire and listen to the victrola. If it would be possible to change the music to audio files on my device I'd happily spend hours in this soon listening to audio books.

VR Historical Appreciation

It’s always fulfilling when we can look back at the history of a particular medium of interest and see its origins. It’s even nicer when it’s in that medium itself. Looking Glass is a love letter, a passion project, paying its respects to the evolution of virtual reality by studying the birth of stereoscopic 3D. By learning this history and viewing these images in VR 3D just further emphasizes the material and makes you appreciate it and look at it in awe. Furthermore, this viewing environment is in a splendid study complete with antique fireplace and vintage phonograph, and it really adds to the comfort and warmth whilst learning. I only deduct stars due to a lack of dynamics; this is a one-note experience. Relax and learn is the object here. If you know that going in, you likely won’t be disappointed, but you may still yearn for more to do. Regardless, it’s a must-add at the free price tag if you seek not just the “what” of VR but the “how” and “why.”

Confusing. I didn’t know what to do.

A strange game. Not a lot to do. The 3D postcards were not a lot of payoff in my opinion. The room was interesting, but only for so long.
