When the sun got tired of humans and decided to hide and never rise again, darkness awoke the dead from their graves. Since then, the clash between man and zombie sets the pace of daily life.

Narrated by Colin Farrell, “Gloomy Eyes” is an animated trilogy and emotional tale where fantastical animated dioramas twist and rotate around you.

Chase the nostalgic and heartwarming story of a zombie boy, Gloomy, and a human girl, Nena, that dare to play with love. Their star-crossed love might just be the last seed of hope.

Premiered at Sundance Film Festival (2019), was awarded ‘Best VR experience’ at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (2019) and winner of the ‘Jury Award for Storytelling’ SXSW (2019).

It's ok if you are new in VR

I got this “animated story” in a game bundle, so I went into it with different expectations. This is not a game, zero interaction other than the main menu. Cool experience if you are new in VR, but if you already have experience with other story telling titles like Ghost Giant, Moss or Down the rabbit hole (that are games with a story telling session) well this Gloomy Eyes is way too static (the story happens all around you, the only thing you have to do is turn yourself around to follow the scenes) and short (30 minutes), so you may be disappointed about it. If you already know the genre and appreciate the static experience, well Is a good story and well performed.

Worth the experience.

As you all may know this is not a game but please don’t let that deter you from checking this out. It’s a very beautiful non-interactive story that’s well written and thought provoking. Currently 3 episodes... I hate to give any details due to me telling the story but if you’re curious check it out or if you know a friend that has it try it... regardless it’s worth the attention.

It’s okay (Quest 2, no issues)

Based on the other reviews I gave this a try so I bought it. Don’t get me wrong the story was good but I thought it was very simple it personally felt like I watching it normally and not in vr, still a good short story though. ——————————————————————- UPDATE turns out my headset did not have my right coordinates which is why I viewed it somewhat normal and was always having to turn, however once I rewatched it the transitions from scenes to scene was quite beautiful. Some scenes feel more VR than others in my opinion. I still leave it at 4 stars because although it was a cute story it didn’t WOW me but I would still recommend you to watch. I had no issues loading my story as the other reviews have mentioned everything worked fine for me.

Good animated film NOT a game

I got this thinking that I’d get some game play out of it. I was disappointed to find there is no game play. As an animated short film it’s great, animation was done in a Tim Burton style. If, like me, you were looking for some game play then you’ll be disappointed. I feel I was lured in under false pretences.

The Quest 2 lack of true blacks ruins it

Bad contrast at the lack of true blacks on the Quest 2 makes it hard to make out what is going on. Everything is dull colors on a washed out greyish LCD background. Hopefully Oculus or the creators can find a way to compensate for the bad displays. Until then I can't give this a good review, despite the charming and beautiful animations.
