Great idea, and it works!

I purchased it for testing. The new 7 version works and I managed to scan and save .obj-file of my livingroom, using infinite range mode. Didn't have possibility to open it with other app, yet. The scanning is fast! I really like how you can choose which areas are scanned. It saves time and power. It's THE 3D-scanning app for meta glasses. I could see many apps utilizing this functionality. Suggestions: Because import folder limitation in other apps like Gravity Sketch and ShapeLab lite, I couldn't reach the folder where the scan is saved. If I could change the save-folder, I wouldn't need to connect my glasses to computer to move files inside the headset. Could the Digitalizer support Gaussian Splat method for photorealistic scans? Imagine the not so distant future, walking in forest. Scanning some tree or rock. Editing it more or less, and sending the work to 3D-printer through cloud. Monitoring the printing through browser screen, all done with the headset. When you go home, the object might be allready 3D-printed. All the technology for that allready exists. Just need to make workflow possible between the Digitalizer, some 3D-modelling app and 3D-cloud printing services.

Performance issues, unintuitive controls

Yes, it works. You can scan your hand or room or whatever and get an .obj file--as long as the app doesn't hang or crash from scanning too much. Which actually happens quite often, possibly because the app is generating the voxels as you scan. The output can barely load on Windows' 3D Viewer, and Blender imports a single mesh of unculled triangulated cubes and over 900 materials. Besides this problematic lack of optimization, the controls are annoying once the novelty wears off. If you want to scan something, you have to "scan" it with the handheld "scanner," even though your headset gets depth data from its front sensors. This is reasonable design for small objects or room scanning (using "infinite range" mode, I don't know how I triggered it), but unreasonable for my use case where I need the entire depth data from the headset's immediate position. I don't know, make a "photo" mode where the app just digitalizes the headset view and exports it. That would make things so much easier for me.

Dont give up

I am very curious as to how far the developer can take this app. As i do alot of 3d printing work and use several different scanners all pf which take alot of scanning to get a decent model. Be nice for these virtual headsets to atleast get a rough model. Keep working on it and ill keep checking in to see how far you are going. It will definitly be worth your while if you can get it scanning all objects on a plane like a table so you can select that plane and walk around the table to scan all the objects on it. Very interesting stuff.

Cool technology

This is a cool use of the quest 3, but it's a little annoying that you have to switch between hand tracking and controllers, and the scan itself seems like it originates from the headset, not the controller, and the scanner only scans the side of objects you're facing, even though it looks like it can scan all around an object.

Thank you all..

Digitalizer is my 2nd Horizon Store app! EarthQuest being 1st, if you haven’t checked it out, you’re missing out on the best travel experience on the platform!
