Pretty cool but
I'm a fan of the Blair Witch franchise. I've been awaiting for a BW game for a very long time, and i own this one on Switch, PS4, PC, and now Quest 2. Although the game could indeed have done better, the setting is really good. Now, talking about the negatives first: there was a missed opportunity here of making the Maryland forest a wider explorable area. In this version, and i understand devs were limited by the chipset on the Oculus, the linearity of the path made it loose the idea of getting lost in an hostile environment, with something you cannot see, chasing you. I would have loved to see a bit more around the woods and i think most BW fans would as well. Another thing are the enemies... Now i understand that in an interactive media, you need some kind of nemesis so the game doesn't feel boring, but... that is not what the Blair Witch was about, in 1999. The BW was about being stalked by an unseen and unstoppable force. Was about the fear, and all too real, of not being able to leave those woods when the night comes, not about some enemies you can or cannot control, but the fear of the unknown that Lovecraft so well described. It is the most powerful fear in the world, and this was taken from this game. Now on to the positives: everything else. And that is true. Despite what i said, the BW still invokes the first time i saw the movie and couldn't sleep for nearly 3 days. Hope you guys don't give up on a sequel, please, because I'll buy it anyway. Just make it more like Visage, P.T., Insomnia, Layers of Fear, maybe, and you'll see you'll have a franchise to last for ages.
