What's New: Network Media Servers, 3D Comfort Options & More

July 28, 2026

Hi everyone, I've been developing Whirligig VR Media player, for some time now and one of the most common requests I've had is media server and network support. I've listen to the request and with a whole new set of tools and time I've managed to extend the support. Here is a list of the new…

Missing support for external media..

Using the pc version to stream via Virtual desktop to quest 2 since years. Whirligig is the best media player around and I have tested several players. But the Quest version is lacking support for external devices, network access, upnp, smb etc. Please add this functionality. Then I will give 5 stars. Many thanks..

Absolutely phenomenal VR app

I have tried the other major VR video apps and Whirligig is certainly one of the best out there. The developer is extremely responsive and goes through many lengths to look at and provide potential solutions for issues. I have used the Rift version and the Quest version is pretty solid. There are features Phil is working on that I am looking forward to and I will be a continued customer.

Best media player available

This is the best media player I've found on the Quest 2. It has tons of options, and the dev even provided me keys for other versions of the app after buying it on itch.io before it was available on the app lab, so I now own the Quest 2, Rift, and SteamVR versions. It's definitely worth the cost if you want to watch any kind of media on your Quest 2.

One of the best media player on Quest

I've been using this for almost nine months since I bought it on October and it never fails me. It suits my needs perfectly from the customisable aspect of it and the features that the devs put in the app. Its worth way more than the price.
