An absolute platforming treat

I bought the quest 2 on launch and to this day I haven't done any reviews, mostly because I've never been great at putting my thoughts into words but here goes. I am 41 and have fond memories of play games like crash bandicoot and ratchet and clank and of course we can't forget our little Italian plumber. When I first heard about this game I couldn't help but wonder how emersive could a game like this possibly be in vr. The answer is extremely. You really do get a true sense of being part of this amazing, vibrant world. It helps that the graphics and resolution are nothing short of miraculous. You would think you were playing pcvr. I do like that although alot of hard work has been put into this title they haven't over complicated things. The controls are simple, as you would expect from this type. I have heard people complaining about things like haptic feedback and funky camera angles. The devs have mentioned on the discord that there is an update coming that will fix these issues. The haptic would be a welcome addition but as far as the camera goes, I don't mind the camera at all. If find that if your faced with a tricky angle where you can see where your meant to jump to it I find it makes you lean into the scene to get a better view and this just adds to the emersion. I love jumping around like a crazy person like everyone else but I have been loving just sitting and chilling with ven. Thats not to say the game is easy by any means, there are some really challenging areas of the game. I could gush all day but the point is if you if you enjoy retro style platformers and want to experience the next gen version then just buy ven...... seriously folks just buy it. You won't regret it. Well done devs 👏👏👏👏👏👏

I’m dying to give it 5 stars!

I love this game. It really shows how much potential there is in making awesome platform VR games. Still, the free camera movements are glitchy to say the least. Like the fixed camera option is simply bad because you miss a lot of the “secret” finds around you in every stage. As for the free camera movement, it just is not perfect at all, and constantly leaves you looking at things in weird angles. Like sometimes you can’t even see Ven at all and there’s no way to fix that but by guessing ways to bring Ven back into scene. Having said all that, man, this game is awesome and super fun. I love “just playing it”. Like it’s so immersive. In my honest opinion this is the best Quest platform game in terms of graphics. It would be great if Ven had a “Life Heart Bar” like Lucky’s tale, or something similar, cause you literally die at once if an enemy touches you. It feels super unfair for a video game. Like sometimes you just have to explore around, but don’t touch anything or you may die…. Or the fact that you want to explore more things around, but it sometimes seems like you can go and jump on other platforms, like they are close and ready to be accessed, but all of a sudden you hit an invisible wall and you die. You’re constantly guessing where things shouldn’t be explored anymore (to save time for dying). Geez, if the camera movement improved (like a Mario Oddissey game) and the map around you were more obvious in the way you can explore. And if VEN had more weapons, etc, I’d give it 5 stars and recommend it to anyone I know. I hope it’s evident how much I loved this game and would want it to improve. Love the developers for this accomplishment.

Something Nostalgic & Special!!!

For gameplay check out https://YoutTube.com/vrdynamite and for the official review visit https://vrdynamite.com I've played platformer games in VR before like Moss and Trover but this was the first one to give me a truly nostalgic feeling. First, let me say that this is one of the BEST LOOKING cartoon-style games native to Quest. I felt as if I was playing a PCVR version! Like making the jump from Mario on the Super NES to playing in 3D for the first time on N64... Ven feels like it's taken the true retro platformer we grew up loving but teleports us through the TV screen into the actual game world itself! Yet it's also plagued by some of the old challenges we faced with platformers back in the day. Mainly unnatural camera movements and positions at times! Right in the beginning, I moved Ven around a corner out of sight and the camera stayed positioned where I couldn't see my next move. Also, sometimes the angle would make it hard to see if ven was over the top of an object you had to jump on - Making falling to your doom a repetitive occurrence! This is the type of thing that can make you want to smash your controller!! However, unlike the cartridge and disc games of old... These fixes can all (hopefully) come in future updates :D If you loved and beat Moss, laughed your way through Trover, I'd say Ven MORE than scratches that VR platformer itch. The developers behind the game should be VERY proud of this one and you can feel the love and talent poured into making it!

Great Graphics but Poor Game Design..

Ven is a very pretty game, and for your money, it gives you twelve levels to play through. Unfortunately, it just can’t keep from sabotaging itself at almost every step. The camera is terrible, and even though countless beta testers complained about the camera, it remains unchanged at release. The audio is also very uneven and seems almost unfinished, with too many things happening without any accompanying sound effects at all. The game design is also arbitrary, and it's never quite clear what could kill you and what might not, making the gameplay involve too much trial and error. It also hardly uses VR at all, except for a few ill-conceived sections, and the final boss battle has the worst collision detection I've ever experienced in any recent game I've played. It might get a lot better if future updates resolve the camera issues, improve the audio experience, and even out some of the gameplay quirks. As it stands, however, Ven VR Adventure is its own worst enemy, turning a potentially great game into a mediocre slog through pretty places. It might scratch your itch if you're desperate for a 3D platformer on the Quest and can live with the frustrations, but we weren't impressed. EDIT IN REPLY TO DEV: After initially replying with “We didn't want to make a game where you sit still” (which has now been edited out) in reference to a game that is explicitly designed to be played seated, the developers seem to have finally acknowledged that Ven's camera system needs work, so hopefully, this particular problem will be resolved or at least circumvented with extra camera options. It's also good to see that they're planning to update the audio and haptic feedback. I look forward to seeing the game improve with updates, although I still think it has some fundamental problems, including horrible collision detection in the final boss battle, for instance. Great game

Great game, nice and exciting levels. It is best to change the camera settings at the beginning, because the default is not the most ideal. Sometimes the camera doesn’t take the best position, but maybe that’s all there would be to improve on it. If you liked Moss, you may also enjoy it and vice versa. It’s surprising how enjoyable platform games are in VR. I hope there will be more similar games like Ven or Moss.
