Real Life Surfer Who Loves This Game

I had to move away from the coast for work several years ago and can no longer easily go surfing. I don't enjoy traditional exercise. Surfing of course kept me healthy and active, but I never considered it to be exercise because it's simply so fun to me. I actually got into VR because I hoped it could fill the "fun and active activity" void surfing left. Gosh though, do I miss surfing. There's nothing quite like it. This app is about the closest you can get to it without getting wet! It's hard to describe, but it just feels right. I felt parts of my brain reactivating that had been dormant for years. What I think the game best captures is that feeling of "one more wave" that I suspect most surfers also feel. One more run to try to get that thing you wanted to do right. I put the headset on expecting to ride one wave and see what the game was about for 5 minutes. 90 minutes later, it died on me while I was riding a wave. This is an easy buy if you're a surfer, especially a landlocked one!

Straight Port from mobile to VR

I've been wanting a surfing game in VR for years and this one delivers. If you've ever played the mobile game, this is a faithful Port to first person VR. Also like the mobile version it's a slow and rough start. Tutorial should probably include surfing lessons instead of just showing you how the controls and work. The graphics are really nice and I can't wait to see all the different beaches.

Wanted to Keep Playing But...

I LOVED this game at first. Told everyone I knew about it. Unlocked the first 10 spots, completed most of the challenges. But there are a few ridiculously hard challenges that will lock you out of the majority of the game. Namely the air time challenges at pipe, floaters at cloud break, and 30 second skeleton bay barrels. (How is that considered beginner tier??) I've put hundreds of tries into these challenges using every mechanic, setting tweak, board choice, you name it. The physics of the game need work. You slow down when trying to do an air up the face of a big wave. There are sections at skeleton bay that aren't makable if you want to stay covered, and every wave there sections. Carving is really janky, but I get that water physics of rail surfing are hard to simulate. I wouldn't recommend this game now until either the progression is fixed or the physics are improved. I would've loved to try the rest of the spots and unlock different boards, but as it is I'm perpetually stuck on "beginner" with no conceivable way to move forward. Lost count of how many 2.5 second airs I've gotten when I need 3, or a 28 second barrel when I need 30. It gets two stars because the core game is good - getting shacked at big supertubes j-bay/puerto escondido/backdoor is awesome and doing 360 air revs at hossegor and trestles feels great. It just needs better gameplay progression and the physics tweaked a bit. TLDR: Overhaul the progression so players can experience the whole game, and improve the physics for big wave air time, carving, and sectioning barrels.

Cowabunga dude!

Love the concept and the look of the game but had too many glitches. The surfboard was two feet off to my side a few times. Needs more instructions. After the instructions they send you out to the ocean and immediately you need to get up and ride a wave, but there were no instructions on how to first start when a large wave is approaching you. A few times I was able by accident to get up and ride for a few seconds, but most of the time the water just rushed over me and sent me back to the tower. I want to love this game, but the inability to play is holding me back. I have well over 800 games so it's not that I am a newbie, but as someone who has never surfed in my life, the instructions need to be a little more complete. Once up on the board, then what? Ride the wave until the wave disappears or you fall down?
