An interactive fairytale for all ages with spatial sound. In a magical forest, a young child stares into the eyes of a fantastical creature and together they embark on an unforgettable journey. The Turning Forest VR experience was created by VRTOV and BBC Research & Development. The sound was adapted from an original soundtrack commissioned for “S3A: Future Spatial Audio for an Immersive Listener Experience at Home”, funded by the EPSRC.

Short but amazing
For a free experience it's amazing though it ended quicker than I hoped. I wanted to experience more but it is still great

A true VR fairytale
Count me amongst those that tend to believe that children shouldn’t be exposed to too much VR, in one sitting or over extended periods of time. In fact, for a while there, I figured it would be years before I would let mine don the headset (they are 9 and 7). I would never dare try to tell any parent what’s best for their child; that was simply my personal thought. After a while, I knew I had piqued their curiosity. So I decided to let them check it out for just a few minutes, so long as it wasn’t prolonged. Let’s face it, perhaps even adults shouldn’t use it for too prolonged of time periods either. To the point of the review, I thought The Turning Forest would be a great option for them. I had previously checked it out myself, and although I enjoyed it, I believed they would truly find the magic in their experience. And boy, did they ever. Watching and listening to their reactions wasn’t just amusing, it was awe-inspiring. It’s often said that we relive significant moments vicariously through our children, or that they enjoy things on a different level because they have not been jaded or made cynical by life yet. This was definitely an example of that. The pure unadulterated joy in their expressions wasn’t the novelty of VR; they had both experienced the medium before in other venues outside the home. No, this was the combination of both the content of the piece and its maximizing the platform’s technical capabilities. Of course, this review reflects not only their experience, but mine as well. After all, children don’t make for the best of distinguishing critics. I felt its strengths were certainly its imagination, heart, and sense of wonder. This is truly an experience that will delight kids to no end. Its weakness, for me, was in its pacing. It ends abruptly and unexpectedly. Under the right circumstances, this could be a virtue. But in this case, it fails to punctuate the piece in the manner in which it deserves. It’s still a fantastic app for all ages, and is truly a “turning point” for the right age. Thank you to the BBC and the development team for delivering something so splendid and memorable.

Spell binding but a very sudden end
This is a beautiful expirience. Everyone I've shown it to loves it. My only note is that the story just ends abruptly. I wish there was some sort of conclusion but never mind that, you should try this!.
