As a kid, I spent hours playing SimCity, blissfully dragging roads and zoning neighborhoods from a god’s-eye view. Surviving Mars: Pioneer VR is like that… if the city constantly tried to kill you. This isn’t about making the perfect utopia—it’s about clawing together a barely functioning dome while Mars hurls every disaster it can at you. And now, in VR, it’s personal. You don’t just place buildings—you stand inside them. You don’t just watch resources dwindle—you feel it. It’s immersive, brutal, and addictively satisfying. Every victory feels earned. Every failure? Painfully your fault. Just like SimCity, only with more dust storms and existential dread. Highly recommended for those who like their strategy with a side of panic.

Introvert Paradise

(Product received for free to review) Star Date: May 8th, 2025. I am living in my spacious Martian home thinking how much you will enjoy this game if you like chill survival experiences. How did I get here? I mined a lot of resources like iron, copper, ice, etc. I fought through storms and my own need for food to build the power and structures needed to make this planet my own. The planet is fun to explore and feels just empty enough to make Mars feel right, and not just that this is early access. That said: This is early access and the development team is very active in both bug fixes, feature additions and improvements, and even taking reviewer feedback. I think I restarted the game 4x in my testing and review due to new builds changing things and realistically I was happy to do it. I enjoy the gameplay loop of building up my Mars base that much. Graphics: 7/10 - For a quest title they are of course simple, but the Mars surface and the night sky look great. Sound: 8/10 - Ice crackling, wind blowing, sounds muffling when you are in suit vs in your habitat. It feels just right Gameplay: 8/10 - Good balance of watching your nutrition, oxygen, power consumption but not making it feel like you can't take time to just do whatever makes you happy. The resources respawn so you never have to feel like you are wasting things or need to make the "right choice" or get stuck VR Mechanics: 7/10 good use of VR mechanics without going overboard and making you flail around just because it is in VR. From scanning, jetpacking, to driving the VR experience feels natural. If you enjoy survival games pick this one up.

I got five kids to feed

I've been playing this for a little while and seen it change so much over a short period of time, the Devs have really been killing it with the constant improvements and updates, so I'm going to not really go over any real issues it has as my review will be out of date within a week. I've not really played many survival games, but this one is definitely on the easier side and is more of a gentle introduction to the genre, there are some enemies but the biggest issues you'll have is running out of oxygen, food isn't too hard to come by as you can live off of tea. There's so much to do here, farming materials and sending off rocket caches to earn money, upgrading your suit, your booster, your farming weapon, driving a bike or a rover, discovering secrets and solving puzzles, it's already had a lot of content added over the past month. For £15.99 it's a no brainer and a must buy for me.

Amazing, but has some rough edges

First of all, this is a great game, easily 5 stars. Closest to Subnautica i have seen so far. I have a lot of questions/recommendations though. I played the campaign in normal mode. In no particular order: 1. Radioactive environments don't harm me. I have never needed to buy the radiation, cold, heat protection. 2. Storms dont do damage, only the lightning strikes in an ion storm 3. I feel the oxygen canisters give far too much oxygen. I never felt pressured for oxygen or the need to strategize around it. In fact, food was more of an issue because i could only eat in pressured environments (which is realistic and i loved it). 4. I think there should be more story, i played the campaign,.got the achievements and i still have no clue what was going on. 5. I don't fully understand how i earned new blueprints to research. They just appeared on my terminal every so often. 6. I am not sure if 'blueprint' is the correct term for preprinted modules i can deploy. 7. I am no fan of the way the map is separated in 10 small areas. This is probably a technical choice? I feel this could've been done differently, maybe by hiding the loading screen in a travel animation or something. Anything to make the world feel more open. 8. I really, really missed windows in my base. The viewpod isn't it. 9. It seems i can only build bases in the landing area? I feel that ahould be free to build anywhere. That would give more freedom to strategize. 10. The ENVAS never did anything for me. I couldn't figure out how it worked. 11. I got the 10 tower achievement on the 9th tower :-p 12. Solar and wind should have some difference.. solar should maybe only work during the day and not during storms.. etc.. the transformator could function as a battery.. this would me more realistic and interesting. I'm sure there is more, but this is wat i could come up with. Nevertheless this is an amazing experience and a must play for survival/explorer fans. It really conveys the atmosphere of being alone on mars, it is gorgeous and haunting at times. Thank you.

Amazing game!

Right off the bat, love the visuals. It would be nice if the flashlight feature could be used by the player and possibly brighter in the caves. The only bugs I have encountered are 1. Every now and then random items from my stored inventory can be found hovering around in random places. I'm riding the hoverbike and I see some aluminum just hanging in the sky. 2. Occasionally I get stuck under the hoverbike if I accidentally ride into one of the canyons. So, save frequently! Other than that, great game! It would be cool if I could play with a friend, not a bunch...just one. I hope the upcoming material is as good as it has been. Off to a fantastic start!
