Rat It: Plague Hunter

Fun little game, challenging too!

I’ve had a bit of fun with this one. The graphics are tight, a bit cartoonish but very well made. The gameplay is simple but has some depth to it. There are puzzles to solve, a bit of crafting that you unlock by acquiring currency and which you can use to upgrade your powers. The gameplay is basically slingshotting rats, using powers to give you an edge, and finally big bosses that you have to dodge from and shoot back, while rats are all over trying to get you. The game could use with some additional sound design, more crafting, and better story exposition, but overall it’s a simple game that will grab anyone’s attention and imagination immediately. You can play it sitting too which was nice.

Rats

It is too dark. Game consists only of shooting tiny rats, which gets boring fast. Also level 1 has a tight timer so good luck getting past it.

Not just about shooting rats

Rat it: Plague Hunter is a VR shooter game in which you explore a pirate ship and try to eradicate all rats with a slingshot. As you advance into each room there are more rats to kill. Many are running around but the further you get the more rats you need to find or lure. This adds a puzzle element to the game as you need to find objects you can interact with and shoot at them. Some interactable objects don't hide rats, they can hide treasures. The gameplay is mostly - enter a room and eliminate all the rats. There is a time limit before you die to poison and you can check your health on your hand. I found the slingshot mechanic fairly good. It behaves the way you'd expect. The more force you use to pull, the faster the projectile will go and the harder it will be to target. This also deals more damage and if you use maximum force the common rats can be one-shot. You can also swap hands mid-game. Not all rooms are about rats, you can also end up in a room with a puzzle element which requires a study of the surroundings or a room featuring a boss with a set behavior. These rooms are fun and I wish there were more of them. Art style is cartoonish and everything fits well together. The rats are rather cute than something you'd want to shoot at first sight. The game uses teleport for movement and you can only move to specific locations. When having the slingshot in your hands, you cannot move which adds some frustration. During boss battles movement is needed though so I believe it should be addressed. The UI is rather clunky but the most problematic is changing the marble type while playing. It could be done a similar way you choose emotes in VRChat as that is fast (or think HL: Alyx) and can be comfortably done during combat without much thinking or looking at the UI. The game is fun and has a good potential if more story and more mini-game rooms are added. Some glitches, bugs (falling off the map), clipping (+being able to shoot through objects) should be fixed.

Fun concept but needs work

I enjoyed the game for how it is now, but definitely needs work. Would love the ability to adjust brightness and to move without teleporting, as well as a smooth turning mode. When rats would be close to my feet I would be unable to hit them as I couldn’t just take a step back. Would love to see the in game hands open and close as you press the grip, and some better detection when trying to pull the string. Once you have grabbed the slingshot and pulled, it does feel very good.

Funny small game

This is a casual and fun game. But it gets a bit repetitive after an hour or so. I also did not really get the story behind the game so it was more of a rat shooting game on a spooky ship for me. Very good comfort as you have snap turning and also teleport movement.
