I Love Roguelites and this got potential

​Plasmaborne delivers a solid foundation for VR roguelite fans, featuring essential elements like meta-progression, diverse power-up choices, and rewarding secret rooms. While the core loop is engaging, the game currently suffers from significant balancing issues that hinder its full potential. ​The Good ​The "pick-one-of-three" upgrade system (complete with rarities) feels great, and the sense of progression is evident. The inclusion of secret rooms adds a nice layer of exploration to the runs. ​The Bad: Balance & Bullet Sponges ​The primary drawback is the enemy scaling. Bosses feel like massive "HP sponges" that take far too long to defeat. While upgrades help, the health pools—especially the second boss—feel overtuned. ​This imbalance leads to a reliance on "broken" builds. Currently, the Boost power-up (providing 7–11 seconds of near-invincibility and +250% damage) feels like the only viable choice. When paired with infinite ammo or energy boons, it trivializes much of the game, yet even this "god mode" struggles against certain boss attacks. ​Suggestions for Improvement ​Tactical Combat: Move away from infinite dashes and rushing hordes. Implementing a dash cooldown/charge system would add tactical depth, provided the enemy health and aggression are tuned to match. ​Endgame Content: An Endless Mode with scaling difficulty and a randomized boss pool would significantly increase replayability. ​Refined Difficulty: Difficulty should come from complex patterns and resource management, not just increasing enemy HP. ​Verdict: There is a fantastic roguelite hiding under the surface here. With a heavy focus on balancing and more varied endgame content, Plasmaborne could become a must-play for Quest 3 owners. Addition to original review: when youve unlocked certain upgrades (wich can be done fairly easy), the difficulty becomes completely trivial and mute. It is all a walk in the park. Its quite sad as this game has alot of potential ans theres alot of fun ideas that goes completely wasted here.

Doom inspired rougelike!!

If you're a fan of old school shooters like DOOM and you always wished you could be in the game, then now you can with Plasmaborne! The team at Cybersnake have been working hard to bring that vision of a fast paced, brutal shooter to VR, along with a great rougelike progression system. They actively listen to feedback and throughout the early access have added requested features to the game, like the ever important options for smooth turning (for VR gamers like me!). Another roguelike..

That's actually really fun! If doom and ancient dungeons had a baby, it would be this. Doesn't take many runs to get your strength up and kick some buttons in this game. I think there needs to be a rebalance of money/upgrades though, since I felt somethings were very generous. I beat the early access in just 3 runs, which is 3 bosses/kings. Great indie title!

Awesome early stage Rougelite

Rougelites and roguelikes are my jam, especially on quest. This is one of the better ones even though it's still in early access.. Definitely could use some balancing, the game is very generous with funds to do upgrades, maybe a little too generous. I'd rather have it too generous than forced to complete multiple runs for a single upgrade however. The boss battle of the second set of levels (the end of the current game) seems a little unbalanced compared to the rest of the game as well. Sharing currency to purchase power ups during the run as well as the meta upgrades to character, power and weapons is an unusual choice for a Rougelite but nothing that takes away from the gameplay. Overall a great game with a great variety of weapons and powers that I will sink more time into once the full game releases!

Brutal, Addictive Gem That Nails the FPS

Plasmaborne is one of those rare VR titles that hooks you from the first wave. Each level throws a fresh challenge your way, and even in death, you feel like you're progressing—stacking cash to unlock a ridiculous arsenal of powerful weapons and upgrades. The gameplay loop is fast, intense, and highly addictive. What really stands out is how the level design and enemy waves constantly evolve, keeping you on your toes. There's a clear love for old-school shooters like DOOM and Quake, but with its own slick, modern twist. Movement feels great (teleportation grows on you fast), the music pumps you up, and the variety of upgrades allows for infinite ways to play your style. Considering this is the studio’s first game, the polish and performance are seriously impressive. It's a solid, well-rounded title that deserves a place in any VR gamer's library. Try it—you might just lose track of time.
