I downloaded the trial version of the game because it sounded interesting and I was not disappointed. I thought it was just another music creation tool, but when I tried it I was surprised at how unique it is. While yes it is a music creation tool, it is probably the best one out there. I loved how much charm and character it has and how unique each of the tutorial characters are, they all have their own unique personality and style of music. The game gives you sound clips you can use to change what an instrument sounds like but it also lets you record your own (which is really cool). I am not the biggest music fan and know almost nothing about how to play instrument, but I could still manage to make songs that sound decent. I have tried and I think it is nearly impossible to make something that sounds bad (even just hitting random notes). I loved the techno music world because it was a lot of fun to mess with the beat makers. I give this game a 10/10 and think everyone should try it.

There is nothing like that out there!

From the bottom of my hearth, patchworld is the best music software out there. I'm not just taking about vr or oculus, but in general. I've spent many years playing performative and modular music, generative programmed randomic sounds, and before that, I've never met an app capable of melt in a so intuitive way the performatic approach with a solid engine to create any kind of instrument and music system. The graphic is smooth, the movement system is perfect, the passtrough option is ready for future xr development. Great app for learning modular synthesis. Finally we can use a professional tool also in quest, and not just basic "music games" like before. I'm very happy to support the team, they are very kind and open to suggestion and criticism. A new kind of creative tool

Patchworld is, essentially, the VR equivalent to node based audio(&visual) softwares like Max 8, Puredata, Supercollider etc. That, in itself, makes it quite an incredible achievement already. For those unfamiliar with what "node based" or "patching" means : it means you get little "blocks" that can do simple functions (musical and visual functions like oscillators, filters, speakers, multipliers, 2D sprites, 3D meshes, movements, and the list goes on there's A LOT in there) and get to plug them to each other in all the ways you can think of to create whatever you can imagine. For some, there might be a learning curve, where others (eurorack enthusiast, coders, Max/Puredata folks etc.) will just feel right at home. Either way learning is rewarding, and VR helps a lot to make sense with the blocks. But to me what can't be understated is just how incredible it is to sit there in your "patch" and watch it evolve as you work, physically, around you. Building an instrument and seeing it take shape, being able to reorganize the way sound is spatialized in real time with no limits to the amount of speakers you can set up, effectively creating a simulation for a massive installation. Being used to patching in traditional "2D environnements" there's just no equivalent that I can think of. The other exciting aspect is the evolution of the software towards a complete audiovisual tool where you can easily integrate audio and visuals to create synergy using your audio data to drive visuals. With a limited set of functions, so much is already possible, and with more on the way, it's quickly becoming a sort of barebone creative interface to build little game-like experiences, constrained to simple features, but it's one of those cases where making it simple just opens up creativity by removing a lot of things to worry about. All in all, like any creative tool it requires patience and learning, but it makes a terrific job at being accessible, rewarding and incredibly open ended.

This app is like if Jim Henson had access to a vr headset instead of a hand puppet. It has instruments and features not found anywhere else and it's kind of hard to describe. There's the patch element, breaking everything down into modular parts to build musical experiences, which are kind of like spatial interactive performances. Compared to Virtuoso, which shares some similarities, the end product is virtual not just an audio recording. It sounds granular, and a lot of it is, much like running patch cables between multiple modular synths would be, but then there's a lot of easy-to-play stuff too. Again, some of these instruments are sort of like the inventive vr instruments on offer in Virtuoso. The difference being you can rebuild the instrument or just make your own in Patchworld. This is not a knock on Virtuoso, I enjoy that app as well and appreciate that both apps have xr/passthrough features. In it's current state, I'd even say Virtuoso is easier to use if you want to make music quickly in vr or use as a vr midi controller. But Patchworld is unrivaled in its raw creative spirit and potential. Going through the (admittedly sparse) intro scenes felt like joining a band lol.

This is not a game!!!! This is 10/10!!!

Upfront disclaimer: Do not get this App if your looking for a occasional pick it up shootem zombie game or an arcade bouncing experience, sorry this isn’t that. Nor is this a ducking and diving, trying to match the beat of someone else’s musical track rhythm game. It’s much, much more deeper then that… Let me repeat, THIS IS NOT GAME. That being said, This may be the greatest app I have ever seen, Exploring physics, sight, and sound. This app challenges you to think outside of your norm, to go into the weird, to disconnect from what we call reality and dive feet first into the unknown. Don’t believe me? Just try it for 10 minutes…. I promise that you will see a glimpse into the future… Good journey patcher, hope to see you in your world
