Earlier this month we attended the TIGA awards in London, with Ghost Town up in 5 different categories - Audio Design, Narrative, Puzzle, Visual Design, Best Small Studio. Well, we ended up winning not only Best Puzzle Game but also GAME OF THE YEAR! Delighted is an understatement!…

Like playing VR for the first time again

I love VR and have been playing for years, but naturally, that initial “wow” factor fades into the background. Playing this game, however, made me feel like I did the first time I put a headset on. I felt like I was there in that world and story with those characters and lost track of time. I was sad when it ended because I didn’t want to leave so soon. I hope there is more to come. I will be there first day for whatever the developer has planned next.

Good game, but very short

I’ll start with the positive: the graphics are very well designed and genuinely immersive. At times you can forget about the game entirely and just enjoy looking around. The puzzles are fine, the mechanics are decent, and overall the gameplay is pleasant. Now for what I didn’t like. Above all, the gameplay is ridiculously short, especially compared to other games in this category such as The 7th Guest, The Room VR, Red Matter, and others. The developers probably knew this, because they seem to pad the experience with long, unskippable conversations, long walks between locations, and lengthy non-interactive scenes. If you focus on the essentials and avoid wandering around, you could probably finish the whole game in a single sitting. There are also very few objects to interact with, and the “extras” are limited to a handful of one-page magazines you can collect.

Supernatural World I Don’t Want to Leave

I love everything about Ghost Town. This isn’t a game I want to rush through. I’ve been taking my time, slowly walking around, exploring every corner, and really soaking in all the little details the developers put into the world. The atmosphere is incredible and it pulls you in right away. The supernatural/paranormal vibe is completely my thing. It feels mysterious, a little eerie, and immersive in the best way. I catch myself just standing there looking around because the environments are so well done. Honestly, I’m already excited for a sequel and I haven’t even finished the game yet. That says a lot. If you like slower, atmospheric exploration with a strong supernatural theme, this one’s absolutely worth your time.

In a word, wow.

Just brilliant - the acting was really impressive, very important for a narrative driven tale. The visuals were really high quality and hence extremely immersive. The sound and music were completely on point - my only critical comments are that it could have done with being a bit longer and the puzzles a bit more involved - but the rest was so brilliant that this is really only a minor comment in the grand scheme of things.

Absolutely Fantastic!

Despite having been a consumer of VR since the Oculus Dev Kit many many years ago, I think this may be my first review. I felt compelled to take the time to share my gratitude to the devs, actors, musicians, artists and all involved with this magnificent game. The experience was just amazing from start to finish. The visuals, acting, sound design, story and game play were a perfect blend of intrigue, eeriness and challenges. I'm not a gamer. In fact, I'm probably a bit older than most here, but have been in tech for many years. I didn't grow up in the video game era, however. Many games I've tried in VR just ended up being overly complex with the challenges or puzzles. After trying the same thing over and over and failing, I'd usually just move on out of frustration. Ghost Town was an enjoyable experience throughout. The puzzles were challenging but logical and achievable. Most impressively, it felt like I was the protagonist throughout, living the story. It was extraordinarily immersive. Bottom line is that I truly enjoyed every moment of this fantastic game. I hope it will not be the last from this talented team.
