Limited Appeal and Lackluster Features.

I'm a big fan of arcade racers, and I can't really say I enjoyed Exocars. The handling is okay - but make sure you grip the virtual steering wheel, do NOT use the thumb stick controls, the car will wildly spin out - but the game just doesn't seem to have that much to offer. You can customize the appearance of your car, your gloves, your frame, etc. - but there are no functional upgrades whatsoever, and the music is maddeningly repetitive. The graphics are okay, but not impressive, but overall, it's not quite a complete package, there don't seem to be any other cars to unlock, so you're essentially stuck with the same car, and just get to modify it's looks. Car tuning is supposed to be on the roadmap, so I imagine the game will start to look a lot more appealing when that happens, but for now, you might want to sit back and see how it develops. Next Gen of Racing

You know the Cars Wii game? This is that, but in VR. I’m not a huge racing game girl, but this game had me playing way more than I expected. The controls were easy to pick up and I could jump right into playing. I even figured out drifting, which I’m yet to do in Mario Kart. I was nervous that I would get motion sick, but I played seated and had no issues!

Subpar graphics on the Quest 3

I'm used to deliberately deceptive marketing media in the Meta store but the visual downgrade from the store video in EXOcars is pretty severe. The person who decided to promote the Quest version with this media has no shame. The disclaimer at the bottom of the video begins with "CAPTURED IN-ENGINE" implying that it's the engine used for the game they're trying to sell. If they were honest they'd have added "BUT NOT THE ENGINE USED IN THIS QUEST VERSION." The visuals have been mercilessly stripped to the bone to get it to run on the Quest 2. No shadows, (not even primitive "blob shadows" like they've had in racing games for decades), no headlight beams at night, no rain during storms, a substantial reduction in geometry complexity, flat lighting, etc. EXOcars desperately needs proper Quest 3 support. On the plus side it runs fairly smoothly and the gameplay is solid, (aside from the combat). The cars are loosely sprung and prone to bouncing out of control, so this is not a beginner friendly racer. After I switched to thumb stick turning and backed off the steering sensitivity it took around a half hour to get used to the handling. It's fun navigating these wild machines around the courses, but without a multiplayer community it'll get boring fairly quickly. The courses are well designed and varied, but unfortunately most of the effort put in by the environmental artists was stripped away when porting it down to the Quest 2. The optional combat should be left set to the default of "off". It's terrible and feels like something that was tacked on at the last minute. Racing bots is somewhat fun, and since multiplayer seems to be stone cold dead that's a good thing. Creating a public lobby then waiting for someone to wander in has been an exercise in futility. I wonder if multiplayer would be dead had they built the game for the Quest 3 instead of ignoring it in favor of a discontinued headset. Despite the fun I'm having with this game I can't in good conscience give it a high score. If they ever release a proper Quest 3 update I'll raise my rating.

Requires precise handling

While EXOcars offers thrilling gameplay, it does come with a learning curve when it comes to steering and control. New players may find the physics challenging initially, as the game requires precise handling to navigate turns and varied terrains. The realistic dynamics can make it easy to lose control, especially at high speeds or when trying to execute maneuvers. Spinning out can happen quickly if players are not cautious, adding an extra layer of excitement and challenge or even frustration. However, this aspect also enhances the overall experience, as mastering the controls becomes a rewarding journey that keeps players engaged and eager to improve their skills. Tip for beginners: go to the settings option in the game. Set "Control Presets" to "Low." Play career mode and upgrade the surface grip as often as you can, whenever possible. Then upgrade suspension. This will help to improve track traction.

Problems problems

Do you like your driving games twitchy? Like, really twitchy? Then you are gonna love this. Developers please, roll your sleeves up and sort out the extremely difficult and unfair driving model. This is so close to being a great racer but this needless hair trigger stuff makes you just give up in the end. I played a lot if this but in the end I just thought "nah, it's just not fair and not fun" Massive shame because so many elements are great. But you'll end up walking away just like me.
