When I saw Apple's Vision Pro, a $3,500 device, it just blew me away. I studied it looking to see what cool ideas I could make work on the infinitely more affordable Quest 3. It's a hard sell for lots of reasons.

I like (or maybe want to like) Colossal Cave,but there are multiple barriers to entry that I think may scare most people away and I can totally understand where those people are coming from. It doesn't feel like a modern-day puzzler, sharing much more in common with those late 90's First-person endeavours and that in combination with the dated visuals and lack of VR interaction will chase away casual players. Add to that some very convoluted puzzles and trial and error solutions that can feel unfair at times and this can be a hard sell. There’s also the rather lofty $40 price tag which I audibly scoffed at when I first saw it as I expected somewhere around half of that after playing a few failed runs. There's a lengthy puzzler here with plenty of replay value but for all the issues I mentioned above, and that asking price, I find this hard to recommend this to anyone but the most passionate of puzzle solvers or those who want to experience a piece of gaming history through a modern lens...or 2 lenses I guess. When evaluating this game, please consider the following. Our initial release received some negative feedback. I will confess that it was well deserved. It was our first VR release and we had some learning to do. Over the last 11 months we have continued working on our VR release and put a huge amount of effort into addressing every concern we saw in any review. The list of updates is huge: We added additional modes of locomotion, integrated tutorials, autosave, new graphics, more sound effects, footstep sounds, performance enhancements, etc. The game that is available today is not the same as what we initially released. Thank you to everyone who has played the game or will play the game. I'm very proud of the game and hope you will enjoy the game!

Neither Here Nor There...

You find yourself in an odd situation, playing a game with inexcusably bad mechanics. You wonder why a VR remake released in 2023 is emulating immersion-shattering game controls from point-and-click DOS-based adventures when the original game, released in 1976 was a text-based game with no pointing or clicking. You wonder why the developers have chosen to add unnecessary friction to the whole experience at every step, and why you lost your first one-hour session because the game doesn't even have auto-save. Okay, I'll stop with the game voice. The face is that this is a terrible port that purposely avoids making use of the VR medium to which it's been ported, and you're being asked to pay $39.99 for what amounts to clunky nostalgia bait. The whole game is about exploring, finding objects and treasures, running into obstacles, and using the objects you found to get past the obstacles. Brings back old memories

If you have ever enjoyed playing old text based adventure games, this game is an absolute treat. As an old guy, it is amazing to walk through a world I was introduced to as a young child. It is a beautiful world to explore. It feels like the exact same game, just now, I am in the game. Definitely some ready player one (the book) vibes going on. It may not be for everyone. I know my kids most likely won't appreciate what was intended in the making of the game. But it is the original game. Nothing changed, just...alive. It isn't like anything I have played before and I love that about it.

Great game

Got this on meta 3 , read a few reviews saying control system not good , I have no problems . I have in the past played text-based adventures , but not this one . To see a VR conversation of a classic is just fabulous . It's full of nostalgia for me .picked it up for 11 quid, so it represents great value for money. The puzzles are deliberately not easy ( but plenty of help on the internet if you're really stuck ) . The automap feature is a gem . This is a easy going adventure, not an adrenaline based shooter . Ideal for fans of the old text based products .
