GrooveVR meets Lands End
Beautiful and stunning. Instantly transport to somewhere outside of earth.

Worth picking up, but indeed limited
I’m completely obsessed with anything having to do with music visualization, simulation, and exploration. When I landed upon the stunningly majestic and unforgettable GrooVR, I went through the high of a euphoric experience along with the low of disappointment that the developer would unlikely be adding more journeys. So I set out to find the “next GrooVR.” Unfortunately, there is nothing out there in the VR landscape, at least not for the Oculus Go, that comes close to matching the brilliance of that app. It is in a class by itself. However, there are a few titles that are at least worthy of being in the conversation. Consider Other Worlds, an app that includes three abstract worlds that appear as though they could have been GrooVR outtakes or an expansion pack. Visually, they look awesome. The artist who created these environments has undeniable talent, and there is countless music that can accompany these images. Not to mention it’s among the cheaper apps for the platform. For those reasons alone, this qualifies as a success. Of course, there are a few elements holding it back from greatness. For one thing, there are only three environments/worlds. You’re still only spending about a buck per, just like GrooVR, but where that one is rich with variety in its landscapes, this one feels limited. And where that one had vitality and color, these are slightly more sinister, with darker monochromatic palettes and some disquieting imagery. Although it opens up a whole new avenue of music genres to work with, there is little of the dynamics that GrooVR was instilled with. Secondly, there is no underlying technology whereby you actually sync music. You just have to plug in your headphones to an external source, turn down the headset and go. That may be undesirable for some. Lastly, while GrooVR lets you sit back, relax and enjoy the show, Other Worlds requires you to do a little work. Head gazing is required for locomotion, as you must look at floating crystals to advance. This wouldn’t be so bad, except each world only has three crystals as far as I can tell, so you’re pretty much just going back and forth. This may come across as a thumbs down, or a backhanded double thumbs up for GrooVR, but this app is definitely a keeper for its imaginative art style and graphics. You still feel the immersion of GrooVR when you pick the right song. You just may not find yourself going back to it as much. But for all of its positives, it is a worthy addition to the library if you’re looking for this sort of thing.

Game works fine but its a bit dull. Needs objects to fly past you etc
