Great experience with a few flaws

The graphics on this are great, using real 3D data from NASA to map the moon for example. It's all high quality. It's in full 360 degrees. A few of the smoke effects are poor, but otherwise good. They use real actors, so the astronauts also look great and move realistically. Like most movies on the Quest, it's short, 30-45 minutes. I found the camera angle to be a poor choice sometimes, so that you had to tilt your head to see the main object in the scene off to the side instead of it going in front of you. Overall a pleasant experience and I hope to see more like this, and I hope the developer considers the camera angles more for future projects.

Into Space VR

1st Step Houston we have lift off. 2nd Step Houston we have a problem. No work worky. It doesn't work. I tried troubleshooting measures. I uninstalled other apps. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I tried the streaming rather than the download option. Interestingly it stops at the point where it says, the moon, so silent, so dead. To expect an app to run a video isn't a big ask. It's not rocket science. I don't know what's going on. Perhaps that's why the app is $8.99 rather than $19.99. Caveat emptor. Nevertheless the app gets a 5 star rating from yours truly. If you liked Apollo 11 you will love this app. This app is like Apollo 11 on cocaine. Apollo 11 was visually breathtaking and ambitious in its depth. The pacing was langorous. It was a 20 minute presentation with scenes averaging from 3 to 5 minutes. Into Space, the part that worked anyways was a 14 minute presentation with scenes and spectacular vignettes averaging about 20 seconds each. This app is a stellar achievement of astronomical proportions. No fake 3D imaging rendered glossy plastic imagined rendition, this app uses actual archived photographic imagery from NASA and ESA. I hope that 2nd Step gets up and running. The ideal is that space machinery works the first time, works every time. The reality, not so much. 2nd Step currently would not work for love or money. Get a free app called Alcove. Sink the extra $7 plus tax which I did. Even someone from my income bracket which is lower class could afford the $7. I'm glad I did. 2nd Step is absolutely mind-blowing. I discovered this on Christmas Eve 2024 so this counts as my Christmas miracle. 2nd Step. A person can write an encyclopedia's worth of good words and only then it would be enough to describe how good this is. I'm in awe. If you're into Space travel this app is like a wonderful adventure. Get on Alcove. Free app. Sign in if you want to upload your own media. Otherwise no sign in is required. Wonderful chalet style house set up. Different rooms. Go to the travel room. Choose the space shuttle for space travel. This will lead to Into Space. Alcove is good on its own. Good free VR videos to look at.

Into Space is a 8GB 24-minute long stereoscopic 360 degree cinematic-level experience showcasing human exploration of space, past and future. Rendered with high-quality lifelike graphics and using imagery available from NASA and the European Space Agency. Step 1 presents the NASA Apollo missions and include scenes from the Saturn V rocket launch pad, lunar orbit and from the moon's surface. Step 2 anticipates what may be to come, with projections of planned and potential future Lunar and Mars missions. We've seen imagery from the Apollo missions many times including feature films like Apollo 13 and For All Mankind, but Into Space manages to find new perspectives in many scenes. The results are often spectacular and can give an incredible sense of scale. Graphical detail is excellent, down to instrument panel detail and finely animated breathing astronauts. Into Space will inspire you and fill you with awe, but unfortunately you shouldn't expect to learn a great deal here. The spectacle is accompanied by a narrative that waxes poetic, but is bereft of any historical or technical content. The visual scenes also look great, but reveal little. For example there's nothing here that captures the tension of the lunar approach and landing. In fact, this film made it look virtually effortless. The Meta Quest version suffer from a slightly lower resolution compared with the PCVR product, and some occasional pixelated flickering was particularly distracting in dark scenes. If you want to try before you buy the Meta Quest version, there's a trailer you can search for on the pre-installed Meta TV app.

WARNING - DOES NOT WORK!!! JULY 2024 - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. IT CRASHES ON THE HOME SCREEN AS SOON AS IT STARTS. YOU CANNOT USE IT WHATSOEVER. SUCH A SHAME BECAUSE IT LOOKED GOOD.

Download doesn't work

Its not possible to download the videos. After reinstalling and several tries, I could download the first one, but not the second one. The streaming quality is very bad.
