A watchful Overseer scans the mountain from the summit above. In High Ground, your objective is to reach the peak and disable it before sunrise. Travel across 5 worlds and 15 chapters that increasingly test your skills. Every movement drains energy, forcing you to carefully navigate the terrain and recharge at scattered platforms. Portal across chasms, evade enemies that drain your power, and reach the high ground before daylight exposes you.

In multiplayer races, opponents climb beside you—use your EMP to disrupt enemies or blast rivals off the mountain on your way to the top.

The Overseer is watching.

Every move costs energy. Use it wisely.

Portal your way to the summit.

Everything wants you off the mountain.

At the summit, disable the Overseer.

Panic when the light approaches!

Honestly, I didn't expect a game without any shooting or traditional combat to get my heart rate up this much! Panic sets in when the energy level alert starts sounding and you have to scramble to find the nearest portal. Not to mention the ominous warning of the overseer's light! It took me a few tries to get the hang of it, but the challenge, and the feeling of being so close keeps you engaged.

WTF?!… one more try… repeat

This was a chance purchase. I was bored, looking for something new to play, and High Ground looked interesting enough. First off, I think it's a little miscategorized. Personally, I wouldn't call it a shooter. Yes, you kind of have a weapon, but that's not really what the game is about. It's honestly hard to describe. Your goal is to find a path to the top of each level and disable the Overseer, but getting there is the challenge. You have to carefully choose where to move, manage your energy, avoid enemies, and think several steps ahead. It's a mix of strategy, puzzle-solving, and action that somehow just works. The more I played, the more it clicked. I get it now. Every level feels like you're solving a puzzle while under pressure, and it's incredibly satisfying when you finally figure out the right route to the top. That being said, this isn't an easy game. I've found myself yelling, "WTF?!" more than once, then immediately jumping right back in because I had to figure it out. The screenshots and trailer don't really explain what the game is. But after playing it, they suddenly make sense. If you're looking for a traditional VR shooter, this probably isn't it. But if you enjoy strategy games, I definitely recommend giving High Ground a try.

High Ground - avoid the Eye!

So - there’s basically a lighthouse the middle of the map. And as it rotates, it also moves up and down. If it finds you, you start losing energy, it makes a terrible noise, and it stays trained on you until you can get into cover. It’s the closest you can feel to having the Eye of Sauron on you without being in Middle Earth. So - your goal, of course, is to get to the top of the lighthouse. You do this by running, avoiding the eye - and teleporting to platforms that will restore your energy. Also avoiding enemies. Enemies are bad - but less terrifying than the eye. When you inevitably fail, you start back at the bottom again. So basically, you have to learn the best routes, while avoiding the eye, and dodging any enemies, and teleporting between platforms, and not being off a platform for too long because you slowly lose energy the longer you’re not on a platform. It’s totally unique and I’ve never quite played anything like it - but I think it’s a a lot of fun. And if this sounds like something you might enjoy, you owe it to yourself to check it out!

Great realization of a classic game!

I had so much fun reliving the experience of dodging the sentinal. This is a simple concept adapted very well for VR with a lot of depth. Game design for the win!

A refreshingly different VR experience.

A refreshingly different VR experience. Success depends on one’s situational awareness—you always have to know whether it's looking at you, or you're toast. It really scratches that strategic itch.
