Warning: Don’t start this game unless you have some time to play cause it is seriously addictive! It’s the most fun I’ve had in VR. I get so engrossed in the story and the atmospheric graphics that it surprises me when I remove my headset and I’m in my house! I would rate it 10 stars if I could. GREAT job Bolverk! PS: The penguin is adorable.

Most exciting Quest game of 2023

When I was first asked to try this game out, I was expecting another FPS clone of a AAA title. I was so wrong. What I found was my new favorite game of 2023. Genotype is not just a game with a great sci-fi story and a clever new weapon system, which are both amazing. What hooked me on this game was its playstyle, it was something I had not experienced in a VR title before. The more I played Genotype, the more I was overwhelmed with this amazing feeling of playing Metroid for the first time. It was like experiencing the Metroid genre all over again, and it left me wanting more and more. The combat and save system is old school 90s, where you have spare ammo, learn enemies combat patterns and weaknesses, and hopes to find a save station or so much progress is lost. Don't let this scare you off, this is what really adds to the game. Remembering all the things you discovered in your last run, finding them again and checking all the alternative paths you could have taken. This makes each play feel different without the need of procedural generated levels, which I have never been a fan of. Genotype is a game where you will discover places and secrets you will not have access to at first. You will need to remember them and back track to them later unlocking new areas to explore and secrets of the facilities. Well you are back tracking you find yourself discovering even more areas and things you missed the first time, leaving you with more alternative paths to take. If you are looking for a VR game you can really sink time into and keep coming back to it, Genotype is that game. Definite Metroid vibes

EDIT: honestly still one of the better games on the Quest that never really got the attention it deserved. with all the new Quest owners because of games like Batman Meta really should push this game towards the front of the store instead keeping it towards the back. It is one of your higher rated games in the APP store Meta. I was so interested in these developers because I wanted to keep an eye out for new projects that I looked into them to find out they are a Danish start up. Strange because my mother is from Copenhagen not that anyone cares. Review  I don’t normally write reviews but this game definitely deserves its recognition. There are only 3 maybe 4 games a year that are released on the quest that really sets its hooks into me. This is definitely one of them. I like VR the problem for me is finding good games. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of quality content imo. So I really look forward to games like this that pull me back into VR. The game itself looks really good. It also played smooth with only a couple minor hiccups. The game takes place in the south pole/ Antarctica, in a secret, abandoned base that feels more like an alien planet. The game definitely has some Metroid prime vibes, but stands all on its own. The polished look and gameplay along with the graphic style of the environment, with the music really sets the ambience. A lot of the enemies reminded me something straight out of Metroid prime, along with the glowing foliage and sci-fi soundtrack. Along the way, you will be able to upgrade your weapons and gloves which will unlock new pathways and different doors. This is a definite five star game in a must-have if you like story driven campaigns RPG’s, FPS, or sci-fi. Depending on how you play the game you can expect a good 6 to 8 hours of gameplay. The devs managed to do this while only taking up 1.5 GB of space. These devs definitely know something. This game deserves to be on the top 10 selling list. To the developers, Thanks hank you for getting me excited about VR again.

Great game

Great game, stuck in a frozen facility, you utilize some pretty unconventional weaponry to battle through and save yourself.. EDIT I gave this game a 5 star rating but it should honesty be more like 10 stars at this point, fantastic quest 3 upgrades for free despite the developers having no access to the headset pre launch, great communication from them, we are so lucky to have developers in this space who care so much

Simply Excellent!

Genotype is that rare breed of game that occasionally comes around, which expertly combines all the necessary elements needed to elevate it to must buy/must play status. A terrific story is slowly unwoven as you navigate your way through a mysterious research facility in the Antarctic, the tension is tenable, the exploration is both rewarding and intelligent and the combat is superbly unique. Graphically the game looks wonderful on Quest 2 and super crisp on Quest 3. 100% recommended that you add this to your collection.
