I am so thrilled to be playing Boombox again! Its satisfying hit feedback and adorable art style are as charming as ever. The UI and graphics look much more polished than before, and I’m really looking forward to the various updates planned for the Early Access period.

This is a decent rhythm game where you hit moving pucks while your pet runs next to you. The targets are generally well timed with the music and can be positioned anywhere within the arc of both arms. That means you could be using your right hand to hit targets below, above, to the right and even to the left of you (same for your left hand obviously). That definitely keeps you on your toes as you’ll need to turn often within your play space. At the beginning, I was having to reach WAY up in the air to hit the targets above (I was seated) but then I realized I had to redo the “auto” height setting (ie. It wasn’t auto all the time, just the first time you click on it). I enjoyed the electronic music, especially the ones with a harder beat, though I can say the harder levels are definitely a challenge!

This game does have some good potential, but it's still glitchy and seems unfinished in certain parts. I don't think it's compatible with the Meta Quest 2, because some of the grahics seem to be kind of stuttery at times. (All the other rhythm games I play work just fine.) For instance the Hinode Camellia level, the visuals around 3 minutes start to lag behind and get all jumpy & pixellated (this is just one of many examples). It reminds me of those old NES 8-bit Nintendo games like Castlevania or Mega Man, when there were too many characters on the screen at once, the graphics would noticably slow down. Exact same thing here with BoomBox Remastered: the colored background (on the sides of the screen) kind of skips/skates along in chunks & doesn't flow smoothly, if there's too many visuals on-screen. The worst oversight though is it's impossible to tell at-a-glance if you've played through a level already. There's not like a "complete star" or green check-mark or something on the screen. Every other similar rhythm game out there displays either how MANY times you've completed the level before, or at the very least a hash-mark, or symbol, or heart or something. Just so that if I'm playing the game next week or 6 months from now, how can I tell which levels I've played already, and which ones I haven't? The only workaround this game offers, to display if you've already played through a level once before, is a clumsy one: attempting to use the Leaderboard which requires several clicks and several seconds of effort - as unintuitive as it is tedious. It's almost as if these game developers made BoomBox in a vacuum, like they had never played any other rhythm-based games before like Synth Riders, RagnaRock, AudioTrip, Song Beater, etc....all of which feature an EASY "one-glance" method to tell if you've completed a level already.

Rhytm game with its own and distinct personality and unique scoring system, not another clone of Beat saber and similar games. Beautiful home screen and good vibes. My impression is that lots of love and dedication has been put for creating the game. Especially if you are into rhytmic games, this is a must have. Significant improvents over previous version and better haptics, lots of songs for every taste. Just keep in mind that if you are beginning with rhytm games, there may be individual learning curve involved and time necessary to develop new skills, but gradually it will get better and you can really enjoy playing.

The developer got back to me and resolved my concern immediately . There was no way around this issue but to re-release this as a new and updated title . I also suggest going onto Discord and joining the community for further info and support. Thank you and wrlcome back Boombox!! I may be in the wrong here but wasnt the last releaae stiil in early acceas phase? Im not sure how I feel about rebuying the same game based on being updated or 'remastered' in this case. Its basically the same game with a slightly more polished look and it has its own bugs to be polished out. I think it sets a bad precedent imo. Dont get me wrong , developers need to make money for the work they do but i just think this is a bad way to do it and those who had the previous version should not have to rebuy this . You cant argue that this isnt a great game though so my rating strictly reflects the behind the scenes work of this title at this time .
