Amblyotube – Immersive Vision Training for Amblyopia

Amblyotube is a VR-based vision training app designed to support individuals with amblyopia (lazy eye). Built for platforms like Meta Quest, it uses dichoptic viewing to deliver separate visual inputs to each eye, helping the brain improve binocular vision and depth perception.

The app allows users to select their lazy eye and automatically applies a shader to the dominant eye (reducing clarity via blur, brightness, or opacity) while enhancing the weaker eye using AI-driven sharpening. A unique flicker stimulation feature further activates the lazy eye by drawing the brain’s attention to key objects.

Amblyotube integrates YouTube, enabling users to watch their favorite content while training—making sessions engaging and consistent compared to traditional methods like patching.AmblyoTube plays video from the internet (including YouTube). A stable internet connection is required. Video is provided by third-party services; availability and terms are controlled by those services and may change.

Unlike full eye patching, Amblyotube promotes both eyes working together, improving coordination and spatial awareness. It is ideal for daily 30–40 minute sessions for users aged 13+.

Note: Amblyotube is an assistive training tool and does not replace medical treatment. Consult an eye care professional for guidance.

Good, by Picture Quality is bad

Thank you very much for this useful app. I am really happy that there is such a specific VR application for vision and binocular training. I think the concept is excellent, especially for amblyopia therapy and encouraging the weaker eye to participate more actively. In my case, the app motivates my left “lazy eye” much more effectively because the image for the dominant right eye is intentionally reduced. I can definitely recommend the app and I believe it has a lot of potential for people with binocular vision or fusion problems. One thing that could really improve the experience is the video quality. It does not need to be 4K, but at least HD quality for the YouTube videos would make a huge difference. At the moment, the low resolution and compression make longer sessions quite tiring and reduce the overall enjoyment and visual comfort. I really hope this can be improved in a future update, because the app itself is a very promising and valuable idea.

a few kinks

I just downloaded today so i only have very surface level feedback. however, Im so glad i got this because it really got me thinking and i have to say I think I have a really good idea and that is that you can put a piece of tape over the lens of each eye inside the headset and be able to block a small part of the screen for each eye and therefore promote bionocular vision. feedback for this app- the initial instructions that come up right away are blurry. just skip those and go to the next few you tube explanation videos. As noted before, the quality isn’t great.
