It looks familiar, because it is.

Yes, this is Missile Command in MR, viewed from a god perspective. Gone is the giant trackball and instead, you launch your weapons with a pinch (no controllers). The addition of a third dimension adds to the difficulty in predicting the trajectory, but gives it more depth. Longevity is helped by upgrades when you clear a level, whether you choose to upgrade weapons, or rebuild installations, is your choice. The music has a John Carpenter feel to it, which is in keeping with the graphics, which are somewhat reminiscent of those in Escape From New York. All in all, a solid, old-school, arcade blaster, completely reimagined in MR.

Great use of hand tracking

In these still early days of mixed reality and hand tracking,this game makes use of both of them perfectly. You set your dome up where it feels comfortable and within your reach and within seconds you're off into your first game. There are tutorials to show you the ropes, hard mode for a challenge and normal mode for something a little more relaxing, hard mode definitely gets hectic around wave 4 when the helicopters show up. There are a good variety of launchers to pick from to protect your city, my personal favourites are the mini gun and the one that explodes into a cluster. It's a great game to dip in every few days to try and get a high score, got around 30 minutes of battery left? Well don't put it on charge, jump in and have a few games.

Classic 80s Arcade Action Comes to VR

I'm an 80s kid, and was fortunate enough to have the classic arcade experience. A big part of that experience was all things Atari, and especially the legendary game -- Missile Command! Here we are, in the year 2024, and many of the games of my youth simply haven't made it to VR in a way that's satisfying. Airspace Defender, a homage to Missile Command, changes all of that. Whether you've ever played Missile Command or not, I can 100% guarantee Airspace Defender will be one of your VR all-time favorites.

Old school game with new school feel

A fun game with just the right amount of difficulty. I thought I'd be amazing at this based on my history playing old arcade games, but my poor citizens keep getting blown up. Using hands and taking this into a 3D bubble is a fun twist on an old mechanic. Add in all the variety of attacks and I know I'll keep coming back.

Fun game for quick sessions

I was lucky to be one of the beta testers for this game, so I've played it quite a few times over the last few months. This is one of the few games that I'm happy playing with hand tracking, as it works well and feels good. I usually play this game for 10-15 minute sessions, and each time I play it still feels fun and fresh. It's quite unique in how you can sit at a table and have the game appear in front of you in a dome. It's a tricky game to get good at, which is a good thing that will keep you coming back for more. My tip is that moving your head forwards and backwards can help you figure out the trajectory of the missiles/planes. Anyway, you really need to give this game a go!
